A ballet barre is an exercise object that Sims can use to practice ballet dancing. It's featured in The Sims 2: FreeTime and as a premium content that's included in Stiff As A Board, Light As A Feather Dance Collection set from The Sims 3 Store.
The Sims 2Edit
There are two ballet barres in FreeTime. One, the Basic Barre by Deuxjoint Ltd, is available in Buy mode, and costs §500. The other, the Better Barre by Deuxjoint Ltd, is the career reward for the Dance career.
Ballet barres have two available interactions: "Warm Up" and "Ballet Exercises". "Warm Up" is always available, but "Ballet Exercises" must be unlocked. On the Basic Barre, the interaction will be unlocked for Sims who reach level 10 enthusiasm in Music and Dance. On the Better Barre, it will be unlocked for Sims who reach level 8 in the dancing skill. If both a Basic Barre and Better Barre are present on a lot, any Sim who can perform "Ballet Exercises" on the Better Barre will also be able to perform them on the Basic Barre.
On the freestanding Better Barre, a Sim who is doing the "Warm Up" or "Ballet Exercises" interactions can be joined by another, as long as both sides of the barre are accessible. Sims will change into their athletic wear when using the ballet barre, and will change into their everyday clothes after they stop. Visitors can, and often will, use the ballet barre autonomously.
The Basic Barre is often shown against a mirror-covered wall, as in the Bell family's house and the hobby lot for Music and Dance. However, it cannot be placed in that manner unless the moveobjects cheat or
Ctrl + Alt keyboard shortcut is used. The keyboard shortcut is a practical use of a cheat to place multiple wall-mounted objects at the same tile.
Buying a ballet barre is frequently a want for Sims with Music and Dance enthusiasm. Having a Better Barre on a lot will not prevent this want from appearing.
The Sims 3Edit
While there is no ballet barre in any expansion or stuff pack for The Sims 3, the Stiff as a Board, Light as a Feather Dance Collection available at the Sims 3 Store includes a barre that can be used by children through elders. The barre includes the interactions "Warm Up", "Exercise", and "Train..."; "Train..." can be used to train other Sims in ballet.
If The Sims 3: Generations is installed, the player can click on the school to have children apply to take ballet classes after school. Children in will learn specific dance moves that they can then show off to other Sims. If both Generations and the Light as a Feather dance barre are installed, they can also learn these moves on the barre.
