Bella Goth was one of the pre-made Sims shipped with the original The Sims game, in which she lived with her husband Mortimer and her daughter Cassandra. Between The Sims and The Sims 2 Bella and Mortimer had one more child, Alexander Goth. In The Sims 2, Bella no longer actually exists (as in, the Bella married to Mortimer doesn't technically exist, from a program point of view); however, her essence lives on in two ways.

Bella's disappearance from the game is a major component to the background story of Pleasantview, the neighborhood where her family lives. The story does not explicitly state what happened to Bella, although her husband, her children and Don Lothario have memories of her being abducted by aliens. Many of Mortimer's memories involve Bella, as do Cassandra and Alexander's. On the family tree panel, Bella's face isn't grayed out. This indicates that the game does not consider her to be dead.

Although the actual Bella is gone, Maxis created a likeness of Bella and used it as a townie in another neighborhood, Strangetown. This version is a little different to the actual Pleasantview Bella Goth, but is acknowledged by Maxis as the same Bella. The only way to send Bella to Strangetown (without messing up the game code) was to create a new Bella, so that's what they did! The fact that the Strangetown Bella has no memories of her loved ones or past life is simply blamed on alien experiments during her abduction. In Apartment Life, the new sub-neighborhood, Belladonna Cove, is named in memory of Bella, and a new neighborhood prop shipped in is a (very tall) gold statue of Bella holding a platinum Plumbbob.

A few people around the internet have suggested many ways in order to get the original Bella back. Here are a few suggestions (None of them are guaranteed):

  • In order to do it without downloads, first go into a residential lot with a family in it. Then, type in 'boolprop testingcheatsenabled true'. After you do this press shift and click on your sim simultaneously. A menu will appear. Select spawn the tombstone of L & D (Life and Death). When it spawns click the tombstone and choose the option 'Add Neighbor to Family'. Select Bella and she will appear in the family as well as be related to Mortimer, Cassandra, and Alexander. She will have all her memories. However in order to allow the game to save Bella must have a baby. After she has a child, it will save and she will not disappear.
  • First go into the Strangetown neighborhood and make a new family or CAS, but there has to be at least one adult in the family. Wait till Bella visits the lot, talk to her, and get her to fall in love with the male sim so that her relationship meters are both full. Propose to Bella to move in, then move her out of the house alone. Move her house into the catalog and then move her into her own house. She must not meet any of the Goths. Allow her to meet Don Lothario and become best friends with him. Make sure both relationship meters with Don Lothario are full. Then invite Don Lothario to visit and look through the telescope. The real Bella will then be back.
  • Ok this will work FOR REAL so everybody listen to get bella back go to the Goth house open the cheat window (type in shift ctrl and c at the same time) & type in boolprop testingcheatsenabled true (just like i typed it) and shift click on any one of the Goth family members click spawn click tombstone of L and D & click add nieghbor to family go through them intill you find Bella bring her back then get her and Mortimor remarried save go back to the nieghborhood and then go back to the goth house it will say bella died on another lot NOW this is the important part you need the Sims 2 University for this if you have it your in luck now open the cheat window (click shift control and c at the same time) then type in unlockcareerrewards then get the resurrect-o-nomitron and get one of the goth family members to call the grim reaper and he asks you how much money are you willing to pay give him 10,000 dollars and bella will com back in normal form then save and she will never die again unless you kill her hope i helped :^). THIS WILL NOT WORK IF YOU HAVE ANYTHING PAST NIGHTLIFE!

You can also use third-party programs such as SimPE to remove the death token from Bella, so that when you save and come back later, she will not be a ghost and disappear. However, mucking about with the programming and using the boolprop feature is generally not advised. If your computer isn't powerful enough moving Bella out of Strangetown can give it the equivalent of a migraine. Nothing special happens either - no tearful re-union, she is not acknowledged as Cassandra and Alexander's mother nor Mortimer's wife. In the Official Guide the townie of Strangetown is also said to be a fake.

  • Just to let everyone know, using a cheat like boolprop to bring Bella back will be risking her life. After you are done playing as her and you exit her lot, she will die while you are gone. When you enter her lot again she will be a ghost and disapear. The game will say, Bella has died on another lot. Her grave is on another lot, or something like that. There is a fat chance this will happen if you use boolprop to bring her back.
  • My storyline was very exciting to play. Dina Caliente finally got her hands on the Goth household, she and Mortimer were set to Marry. Then, Bella returned from an alien spaceship (cheats). And Mortimer and Bella fell in love and moved out of the Goth household.
  • In my sims Bella is happily married to Mortimer, and has 4 kids and 1 on the way. Dina was never married to Mortimer so Bella is now back! ~phoenixsuns13
  • In my story I got Bella to marry Johnny but then later he found out she was cheating on him for his dad!
  • In my story, I used the unlockcareerrewards cheat to create the resurrecter thing, then I resurrected Bella(which convienently removed the death token from her. mvignal101010, check out my sim page than sign my guest book. P.S you need the university expansion pack to get the resurrect o nomitron. :):):)
  • In my story, I removed Bella's death token with SimPE, then reunited her with adult!Mortimer, right after Cassie & Don got married. One day, Dina Caliente came to visit the Goth manor, as she had not heard from Morty in a while. There, she found Bella, alive and well - much to her displeasure and surprise (she had persuaded her great-grandfather to abduct Mrs. Goth, after all). Dina quickly composed herself, and greeted Bella quite nicely, suggesting they go into the attic to chat. The two ladies sat down in front of the fireplace, where Bella told Dina of her adventures with the aliens. Dina promptly lit a fire, saying she was cold, then casually pushed a wooden table in front of it and skipped out of the room, on the pretense of getting a glass of water. Dina then locked the door. The table caught fire immediately, as Dina stood outside, positively writhing with glee at what the consequences of Bella's death would be: she would pretend to be overcome by grief, and console Mortimer - the poor thing had lost his wife days after finding her. Then, the two would marry and once Mortimer had bitten the dust (perhaps another attic chat was in store?), she'd run off with the inheritance and find someone hot to settle down with. Fortunately (or unfortunately, for Dina), things did not go according to plan. Mortimer, hearing Bella's screams, dashed up to the attic, threw Dina unceremoniously out of the way and rammed the door open with his shoulder. He then extinguished the flames surrounding Bella and they hugged (aww). Then, together, they ... er ... kicked Dina's butt, as it were. THE END YAY
  • In my game, I'm going to find Bella in Pleasantview, and make her return to the Goth household. She will remarry Mortimer, and they will have a child. As for the Bella in Strangetown, I don't know what the heck I'm gonna do with her, considering she's a fake. -Angelgirl45
  • I too, used the headstone of L&D to bring Bella back and remarry Mortimer. It's okay, because although she doesn't recognize Mortimer as her husband, she knows that her children are her children. The only thing is, after they married, she had a baby, so I saved. When I came back Bella turned into a ghost. The INTERESTING thing is, when she turns into a ghost, it says, "Bella has died on another lot. She will return there to haunt,"...does this mean she WAS killed??? Because I thought she died on the Goth lot, but her ghost wasn't on the lot at all. And when Mortimer died, the hula zombies that come to take him look A LOT like Bella Goth. After Mortimer died, I just resurrected Bella with something I downloaded, I don't remember what, possibly SimPE..so she could take care of her baby she'd had with Mortimer, whose name is Polly, so Cassandra didn't have to raise two children at the same time, (Polly, and Cassie and the late Don Lothario's baby she had..yes I killed him. But really, who doesn't want to?) And Alexander, who'd just turned into a teenager. When I resurrected Bella, though, she knew once again who her children were, and that Michael Bachelor (resurrected, and married to Dina, and now they have a baby girl named Nighat, after her mother) was her brother, so I'd have to assume she IS the real Bella, just with her Mortimer memories (as well as previous to her first L&D resurrection memories) erased. However, she still knew her family the first and second time I brought her back. Weird, huh?-LovelyChelseaSimMeterMaid.
  • I messed up (the Strangetown-version of) Bella's life big-time on purpose. I had her marry Ajay Loner, and then, because she had the Romance aspiration, she cheated on him with like, four other guys. She "tried for a baby" with all of them, including Ajay, then got pregnant. Turns out it was Ajay's child in the end, however. It was a girl and I named her Elise. Then, Ajay caught Bella cheating when Elise was a baby, and Ajay moved out, so Bella lived alone, taking care of Elise. Then, Ajay and Bella made up and got married again, and had their second daughter, Elizabeth. Then, no surprise here, Ajay caught Bella cheating again, and this time kicked her out for good, taking care of Elise and Elizabeth by himself. Then, I continued to play with Bella at a different house. She, at that point, had about six lovers. I had her once again "try for a baby" with all the guys she was in love with and had a son, who I named Remus, (yes, after Remus Lupin) whose father ended up being a townie by the name of Gerard Landry. Then Remus got taken away by Social Services because Bella didn't feed him when he was a toddler. She then did a public WooHoo with this townie named Cooper, and got pregnant a fourth time with her final son, who I named Ajay, of course after Ajay Loner. In the end, she starved to death, and Ajay too was taken by Social Services after her death. I'm planning to have the two boys adopted by a new character I made, named Sanga. -gatefanjuliana
  • In my game, i decided to do some investigating. I looked in the files. And the photo's, the memories. Everything :). I decided that Bella's abduction had some weird part in the game, and this is my final conclusion. Mortimer, suspected Bella of having an affair with Don Lothario. He watched them getting close, and when Don decided to get close to Cassandra too, it was the final straw. Proof: If you look at the photo of Don with Cassandra, Mortimer is in the background looking not-so-pleased. Also, Mortimer has no happy memories of him and Bella at all proper...until she was abducted. So, he hated Don. But being the mad scientist that he is, he thought more of knowledge, and because he was so angry with Bella, he thought "how cool would it be if Bella was abducted". And when she was, his memory of that was highlighted green. And, he thought that he may see some Alien's near house because of that. No, he wasn't looking for Bella. He was looking for a flying saucer. If you look at a picture, it shows Mortimer smiling, and has Bella on his mind. He's thanking her for this piece of knowledge. Now, bring Bella Back. As you'll know, as soon as you bring Bella back, Mortimer hates her. He wants nothing more to do with her. Why is this? Mortimer and Bella where in "love" weren't they? And when she's "dies on another lot" Mortimer has a gravestone saying "Bella died" but its green. Why does he hate her so much? And why are Mortimer and Don not friends? They're down as "just met" when you start the game. But if someone was marrying your daughter, you'd want to know the ins and outs. But Mortimer doesn't. I sense a guilty man guys ;).
  • Listen to this. I have two computers, and each have a sims 2. The 2nd computer I don't play the sims 2 much, because I practically screwed up the whole game! Anyways, I made Alexander Goth an adult and moved him into Strangetown where he met Bella Goth, and they are now married and woohoo all the time. To make it awkward, this is his MOTHER. Luckily, in computer 1, no one even knows Bella exists :D
  • In my game Bella was found in Strangetown, and married a stupid townie I made named named Indiana Jones. She cheated on him with Pollination Technician 9 and Indiana and Jenny ( Pollinations wife) got married and had two kids the first i named Miriam, the second Mutt (from the crystal skull) Pollination got sick and tired of Bella and broke up, so I moved her back to Pleasantview but Mortimer had died already, so she married Don Lothorio and I accidentally turned her to a teen using boolprop. Don died and Bella had a baby as a teen witch was an alien that got taken away by child protection services, because Bella did not pay any attention to it.
  • on my game I made Bella married Johnny Smith when he grew up. they had 6 kids Robi,Jeana,Jennie,Jammie,Gimmie,and Savannah.BIG FAMILY!!!
  • At first, Mortimer married Dina but when Alexander became a teen I broke them up, and then by boolprop Bella returned, and is now pregnant with Mortimer's baby. Besides, the boolprop was useful because Mortimer became an adult again.
  • In my game, I created a sim, victor hill, and I get him to flirt a bit, and it worked. they moved in together, and got a dog with they named Rufuss. Bella got a job in the dancing field. She changed her aspiration to family. victor proposed, and she accepted. she became pregnant with twins, which they named Justin and Jennifer. When Justin and Jennifer were 4, Victor and Bella got married. She soon found out she was pregnant with a baby boy, which they decided on naming him Mark. Bella got to the top of her career, and Victor got to the top of his in the entertainer field. Bella became pregnant again with a baby girl, which they named Margert after his mom. They call her Maggie for short. They got a new dog they named Bessie. Rufuss and Bessie had puppies. The kept only one, but gave the rest to friends. One day Bella got a shocking phone call, it sounded like her daughter, Cassandra. She sounded angry. She yelled at her, and Bella apologized. Cassand forgave her. Bella soon became pregnant again with a little girl they named Alica. Justin and Jennifer moved to Sims State University. Bella became pregnant for the last time with a baby girl they decided to name Veronica. Mark moved to Académie Le Tour, and soon dropped out and moved to Veronaville with her girlfriend Ruth. Maggie became pregnant. She kept the baby though. Anyway, Justin now lives in Riverblossom hills with his wife, Sarah, and have 3 children named Brandon, Buckley, and Beauty. Jennifer lives in Pleasntview with her roommate Kimberley. Mark lives with his parents, and is single. Ruth broke up with him. Maggie is a junior living in the sorority house, and her parents are taking care of baby Nick. Alicia is in the 11th grade, has a girlfriend, and plays basketball. Veronica is in 7th grade, and ice skates. Victor is now an elder, and reitered. Bella is almost an elder, she enjoys having a little baby around.
  • On my game,I used the Tombstone of L and D to bring Bella back. She got engaged to Mortimer,and had twins, two girls called Sadie and Destiny.She then got married to Mortimer, and I made Dina come.Bella kissed Mortimer after and Dina slapped Mortimer so I deleted her :].Sadie and Destiny are now grown up and live on their own.
  • In my game, I returned Bella in the Goth Family, so she was married Mortimer and had a child, Catherine. Now she is two days old!
  • In my game the Strangetown Bella fell in love with a teenaged girl! I then made the teenager an adult (cheat) and they got married!!! oh yeah did I mention the the Mother and Father of the teen was still there whe they married.
  • I got Bella back in Pleasantview using cheats(boolprop) and simPE. By then Mortimer was married to Dina Caliente. So he dumped her for Bella. Alex grew in to a teenager.
  • In mine I got Bella back and her and Mortimer had a child called Gunther(named after Mortimer's father) using cheats-I made Gunther the oldest child. Bella and Mortimer are now growing old and happily together in Goth mansion with Alexander and his wife Kiki and their son Julian. Cassandra and Gunther have families too. And Dina still trys to woohoo Mortimer but fails.
  • Now that I know how to get Bella back, I'm going to have her move in with her daughter Cassandra and her wife Darren along with Bella's son, Alexander and Cassandra's stepson Dirk. I'm going to make a sim that Bella falls in love with and they can have more children since Mortimer died when he was married to Dina.
