Chickens are added in The Sims 4: Cottage Living. They can be purchased using the Chicken Coop object in build mode and Sims can keep a maximum of eight chickens per coop. When fed, they produce eggs that can be collected for use in cooking and baking. Sims can also hatch new chickens for the coop, if they have a hen and a rooster in the coop available to breed, which will offer the chance to collect hatchable eggs. They can also be fed various treats and collectibles for special effects, including:

  • Friendly Treat - increases relationship with animal
  • Fruity treat - makes hens lay blue eggs
  • Golden Treat - turns a chicken into a golden chicken, and they will lay golden eggs
  • Flirty Treat - makes pink eggs
  • Chocolaty Treat - makes chocolate eggs
  • Healthy Treat - increases animal's lifespan
  • Fishy Protein Treat - +1 to next harvest
  • Animal Party Treat - +1 social for animal
  • Midnight Treat - makes an evil chicken, and they will lay obsidian eggs
  • Rainbow Treat - makes a hen lay rainbow eggs
  • Pumpkin Treat - makes a hen lay orange eggs
  • Veggie Treat - makes a hen lay green eggs
  • Spicy Treat - makes a hen lay obsidian eggs

Hens will lay eggs every day. One hen will lay a single egg daily, and more if there are multiple hens in the coop. Eggs in a coop can be collected by a Sim and will go into that Sim's inventory. If there is a rooster present, they will breed with hens and hens will be able to lay hatchable eggs. Hatchable eggs can be placed in the coop to incubate. Eggs hatch after one day of incubation under a chicken.

Chickens do age, and will eventually die, but their lives can be preserved if aging is disabled or if the chickens are fed healthy treats. Unwanted chickens can be traded for Simoleons, meat, collectibles, or treats.

A lot with the Wild Foxes lot challenge enabled will cause wild foxes to show up and try to steal eggs from coops. Foxes can be warded off by a llama, which will spit on them and scare them away. Dogs from The Sims 4: Cats & Dogs can protect your chickens from foxes. Chicken coops can also be upgraded with a "fox be gone" alarm to ward off foxes. Sims can also "shoo" foxes when they appear on their lot.

Trivia[]

  • Chickens appear as decorative neighborhood objects in The Sims 4: Island Living. They can be seen roaming around, but cannot be interacted with at all.
