Create a Style is a tool featured in The Sims 3 and The Sims Medieval. It is also included in the console versions of The Sims 3. Create a Style lets the player choose and change the patterns and colors of objects and clothing. Players can save patterns and objects and export them to be uploaded to TheSims3.com.

Each object can have up to four patterns and each pattern can have up to four colors. Colors can be chosen in three ways: from a list of predetermined colors, from a color wheel and lightness slider, or by inputting a RGB or Hex code. The Sims 3 comes with many patterns and players can also create their own via the Create a Pattern tool. Not all aspects of an object can be customized, although a high degree of it is offered.

The tool also allows players to design themes for a room by copying the theme from one object and dragging it to another object.

Any pattern can be saved as a favorite for quick access. These patterns are added under the favorites section.

Create a Style is also available in Create a Sim with the same functions as in a house, except that hair can't have a pattern.

Other games[]

In The Sims, there was no Design tool. All objects were not customizable.

The Sims 2 and The Sims 4 do not feature a Create a Style tool. Instead, they include a Design tool that allows the player to change the recolor of an existing object, but do not allow for other forms of customization, such as being able to add custom colors using a color wheel. In The Sims 2, changing the color and pattern of a pre-purchased object cost §15 and two channels of an object (like the bedding and the base for beds) can be altered independently. In The Sims 4 changing the color doesn't cost a thing, but the tool only features one channel of redesigning.
