Angela Smyth is a Sim in Simasota County who grew up in Pleasantview with her parents, Mary-Sue, who is a politician, Daniel Pleasant, who is a Hall of Fame football player, and twin sister Lilith. She and Lucy Burb are cousins. She was born at Pleasantview Regional Medical Center in the year of 1989. Like her father, she has green eyes and red hair.
Mary-Sue's memories indicate that Angela is the older of the Pleasant twins, though that is not explicitly stated.
Angela is also the granddaughter of Jeff and Diane Pleasant (her father's parents) and Herb and Coral Oldie (her mother's parents). Jeff and Diane passed away when Angela and her sister were toddlers, but she has no memory of that.
She dated Dustin Broke early in high school, but they never had their first kiss (it would have happened but was interrupted). They were childhood friends, although they didn't have much in common. They were both caught shoplifting high end electronics from Nookingtons's, which was ultimately the downfall of their relationship. The two were charged with armed robbery because Angela pepper sprayed the Nook's Asset Protection agent who stopped the two. Angela developed post traumatic stress disorder after being apprehended by the infamously brutal NAP and receiving a lot of unwanted publicity in the media. She has become camera shy, does not like to shop at Nook's stores, and is afraid of non-military authority figures.
Prior to her adolescent arrest, Angela was considered the "good twin", and was thought to be "patient" and "dutiful". She's was also a good student and a cheerleader at Port Simasota High School. She has five Cooking points.
After being arrested and serving time in a DJJ residential program, she was sent to military school along with her twin sister. Angela was a victim of bullying and her only fond memory from SMA is reconnecting with childhood friend Cody Smyth there.
Angela attended Sim State University. She originally majored in literature, but changed her major to history to be the same class as her flame, Cody. It was at Sim State University that Cody proposed to her, and she excitedly said yes. Her aspiration changed from popularity to family, with pleasure as a secondary.
Upon college graduation, both Angela and her husband joined the U.S. Navy as officers. Upon Angela's first pregnancy, she discharged from the Navy while her husband continues to serve. In 2014, the family lives happily on base at Naval Station Port Simasota, and Angela is a loving mother. Her favorite store is the Navy Exchange.
Cody's mother does not trust or like Angela, and feels she is a thief just trying to take advantage of him. However, Cody's grandparents had a positive relationship with Angela until their demise.
At the beginning of the game, Angela has recently reconnected with Dustin Broke, who she hasn't seen in nearly 10 years because he was sent to a juvenile residential program until age 18. He is now addicted to heroine and is homeless, living in the Pleasantview Nookington's parking lot. It is up to the player how Angela's re-connection with Dustin and her relationship with her husband will transpire.
Arrest and conviction: Angela's life changes forever Edit
August 18, 2004: The day starts out like any other hot summer day in Pleasantview. Mary Sue is getting ready for work, the twins are getting ready for school, and Daniel staying home, watching TV because he has the day off. Angela puts on her cheerleading uniform because there is a pep rally at her high school. A big yellow bus arrives to take the twins to school, and a car pool arrives for Mary Sue.
During lunch time at Port Simasota High School, Angela sits with her boyfriend Dustin at PSHS Champ's Cafe. Dustin has video games he stole from Nookington's, and he's selling them for half of what they're worth to some friends at the lunch table. Angela whispers "I love you" in Dustin's ear, and he says "I love you too." She asks him "why don't we hang out after school?" and he replies "I have to go get some electronics today, I have a buyer gonna pay top dollar." Angela asks him to bring her with him, to which he reluctantly agrees.
Afternoon comes around, and the pretty red headed cheerleader steps off the bus at her house with her boyfriend. They hang out at the Pleasant household for a few hours, they have dinner together, and Dustin leaves, telling Angela "I'll be back later with my buddy from North County, he's got a car and he's gonna pick us up." Angela gives him a hug and he departs.
Later that night, Angela sneaks out with Dustin. It's a 45 minute drive to Downtown Simasota, and Dustin explains to her what they are going to do along the way. They arrive at Nookington's in Downtown, and they stroll in the door. The two lovers head to the electronics section where they conceal some video games into reusable shopping bags, and brazenly load $5,000 worth of computers into a shopping cart. "I come home in the morning light, My mother says "When you gonna live your life right?" Oh,mother, dear, We're not the fortunate ones, And girls, They wanna have fu-un. Oh, girls, Just wanna have fun." plays in the background over the In-Store Broadcasting Network.
Meanwhile, unbeknownst to the teens, a middle aged man sits at a desk watching the cameras, and he dials a phone number from his desk. 'Ring ring ring' goes the cell phone of a man wandering about on second floor. "Hey, keep an eye on those two kids in electronics, the blond haired boy and the cheerleader, I recognize the boy and he's trouble." "Copy that" responded the man and he hangs up.
The two waltz out the door with the stolen merchandise, and for two seconds look each other in the eyes, and right when they were about to kiss in front of the store, "I'VE HAD ENOUGH OF YOUR SHENANIGANS, BLONDIE" exclaims in a southern accent the middle aged Nook's Asset Protection agent, who grabs Dustin by the arms, while a younger agent in his mid 20s says, "oh look, a little red headed girlfriend, how about if I twist her arms off, and as he starts to grab her, she pulls out a can of pepper spray and sprays him in the face. In searing pain the agent says "OH H*** NO, YOU'RE GOIN' DOWN NOW" and he violently grabs her and pulls her into the asset protection office, while Dustin, trying desperately to break free, cries "please don't hurt her, please don't hurt her" to which the agent restraining him says "shut up punk."
In the NAP office, the agent violently throws Angela against the wall and starts beating her with his fists, she falls to the ground and he starts kicking her. "Ding ding ding, you're listening to the In-Store Broadcasting System, enterta... BEEP Guest service to register two, guest service to register two *clack*" is heard in the background while the other NAP agent pulls him away from Angela, saying "don't kill her, she's not worth it." While Angela quietly weeps, a happy song plays in the background, "Come on Eileen, oh I swear what he means, At this moment, you mean everything, With you in that dress, my thoughts I confess, "Verge on dirty", Ah come on Eileen," as sirens can be heard whaling as cops approach the store. A swat team was dispatched in reference to an armed robbery in progress, and members of the Simasota Police Department SWAT storm into the room with high powered rifles. "SIMASOTA POLICE, DON'T YOU F***ING MOVE A MUSCLE" violently exclaims the officers. Angela is on the floor, shaking and quaking in a puddle of her own urine, and an officer violently commands her, "GET UP YOU PATHETIC C**T! WHAT KIND OF DRUGS ARE YOU ON?" A big, burly detective with the Simasota County Sheriff's Office walks in the room, to take over since Dustin was wanted by them for thefts at Nookington's and Nookway stores across Simasota County. "You little rascal, you're in trouble again?" the detective asks Angela, to which she replies "I've never been in trouble, I'm a good girl, this isn't what I'm like." The detective says "I know I've seen you before, why do they let criminals be cheerleaders anyway?" He actually recognizes her because he had seen her in a Papa John's commercial with her family, but doesn't realize it.
"If I could grant you one wish, I'd wish you could see the way you kiss. Ooh, I love watching you baby, When you're driving me crazy ,Ooh, I love the way you, Love the way you love me, There's nowhere else I'd rather be, Ooo, to feel the way I feel with your arms around me, I only wish that you could see the way you love me, Woh woh woh woh the way you love me" plays Faith Hill's early 2000s hit on the In-Store Broadcasting Network as the detective interrogates Angela (Dustin refused to talk). The detective asks her many questions, reviews the surveillance footage, and takes the two into custody for armed robbery. Dustin is charged with 9 other counts of grand theft from prior incidents for which NAP provided video surveillance as evidence. The two are pushed into the back of a police car, and transported to the Simasota Regional Juvenile Detention Center. Where the Green Grass Grows by Tim McGraw plays on the radio in the police car on the way to the detention center.
Immediately following the teens' apprehension, the Sheriff's Office obtained no-knock search warrants for both the Pleasant household and the Broke household. Upon kicking down the door at the Broke household, they found a few thousand dollars worth of stolen merchandise hidden underneath Dustin's bed, and they interrogated a frightened, pregnant Brandi, who claimed to know nothing about Dustin's crimes. When the cops busted down the door at the Pleasant household, they found a computer in Angela's bedroom which was confirmed by serial number to have been stolen from Tom Nook's Shop, which Dustin had given her, and a family who was genuinely surprised by Angela's involvement in these crimes.
At the detention center, Angela has a cell mate who is hateful and wants to kill Angela. They are frequently getting into fights, all of which Angela's cell mate wins. Dustin has a cell mate nicknamed "bubba" who is homosexual, who frequently tries to molest him. The detention center is dirty, has cockroaches, and staff who are very corrupt to the point of cheering on Angela's cell mate when the two fight.
Because her father and (to a lesser degree) her mother are both famous, and because she had starred in a reality TV show, her felony arrest was covered in the national news. Following her incarceration, she was treated differently by her family; she was no longer the favored twin. Her grades dropped dramatically while her case was pending, and her family treated her like she was useless. It also caused tension between the Pleasants and their extended family, with John Burb being an employee of Tom Nook's Shops, Inc. However, it did cause the Pleasant twins to finally develop a bond between each other; Lilith became protective of her twin sister and would fight with Sims who were cruel to Angela. This is despite grief that Angela's publicity caused for Lilith; Lilith was frequently mistaken for Angela and treated with scorn. One day Lilith was at the Pleasantview Nookway with Dirk, the cashier failed to deactivate the EAS tag on an item, causing the anti-theft alarm to activate, and "PUT YOUR HANDS UP WHERE I CAN SEE 'EM, YOU PULL ANY OF THAT CRAP YOU PULLED IN DOWNTOWN AND I'LL BLOW YOUR BRAINS ALL OVER THE WALL" exclaimed a gun toting NAP agent who mistook her for Angela. "When you want it the most, There's no easy way out, When you're ready to go, And your heart's left in doubt, Don't give up on your faith ,Love comes to those, who believe it, And that's the way it is" sings Celine Dion in the background as Lilith is wrongfully detained.
Tom Nook himself appeared at Angela and Dustin's sentencing hearing, due to the publicity of the case. He urged the judge to banish Angela and Dustin to maximum security facilities, a request which the judge partially agreed upon. However, much to the dismay of Tom Nook, Angela was classified as high risk. rather than maximum risk due to it being her first offense and considering her past school performance. Angela served 12 months at the G4S Hillsdale County Girls Academy in Trampa Bay as a high risk offender, and was placed on juvenile probation for the remainder of her teen years. Dustin served the remained of his teen years at G4S Okeeshoflee Juvenile Offender Corrections Center in Okeeshoflee as a maximum risk offender, and as a result, Angela lost touch with him. Tom Nook's Shops, Inc. created an anti-shoplifting poster using her mugshot with the text "I was a cheerleader at my high school... before I stole from Nookington's," and she is internally known as "Pepper Spray Rally" by employees of Tom Nook's Shops.
