Annabel Owens nee. Smith was the daughter of Adam and Olivia Smith both of whom were addicted to their jobs and encourage her to do likewise. She was married to Joseph Owens and the mother of the late George Owens as well as one unborn baby. She became a surrogate mother to her neice Vanessa Owens and along with her husband they were the only two members of Vanessa's family that supported her when she came out.
Before Birth[]
Annabel was born when her parents were relatively old as they had focused a lot on their careers prior to her birth. Both of her parents were very hard working and felt that any view was the wrong view if they didn't agree with it. Her parents mainly wanted a child to continue with their fortunes and leave their house to when they passed away.
Babyhood[]
As a baby, Annabel lived a relatively comfortable life. Her parents hired a nanny to take care of her most of the time although her father did enjoy giving her cuddles a lot. She hardly saw her mother at all as out of her parents, her mother felt as if she had something to prove to the world and worked all the more harder for it.
Toddlerhood[]
As a toddler, Annabel was a sweet girl and she enjoyed playing in her dolls house a lot. As the old nanny was caught taking herbs, Annabel got a new nanny that she became very close to. She was taught all of her toddler skills by her nanny although her father and mother taught her a nursery rhyme between the two of them.
Childhood[]
As a child, Annabel immediately became obsessed with writing and the more creative subjects. She was forced to learn an instrument and decided to learn violin. As time progressed, she genuinely began to enjoy the violin and was grateful that her parents made her learn it. She was a well rounded child, not exceptionally academic, but she was very sporty and enjoyed writing poems and short stories in her spare time.
Teenhood[]
As a teenager, Annabel won a competition in poetry and decided that she wanted to pursue writing as a career. She decided not to tell her parents until she had written enough poems to create an anthology and show them what she could do. Her boyfriend at the time, Alex Meyers, was very supportive of her dreams. He was a similar person to her, although he was very musical and they would often play their instruments together in their spare time for fun.
One day, Annabel completed her anthology and decided that she was going to tell her parents about her dreams to be a poet. She decided to tell them early in the morning so perhaps they would be sleepy enough to agree to anything. She collected her anthology along with a couple of short stories and gave them a small presentation. Her father and mother seemed impressed by her poems and her father applauded them saying they were 'a great, little hobby'. Annabel timidly told them it wasn't a hobby, it was going to be her career: they were not happy.
Her father and mother lectured her for the next hour or so about how this would never make her money and the whole time, Annabel felt close to tears and wanted to say something but couldn't bring herself to say anything. At the end of it, she apologized to her parents and made them breakfast in bed.
After this, her exam grades dropped and she become despondent. She pushed Alex away and isolated herself. She now found English, Sport and Music to be tedious and gave up violin and all the sports she had played. She would stargaze a lot as it made her feel better, to think that her problems were tiny by comparison to the huge stars far away.
Young Adulthood[]
As a young adult, Annabel was pushed by her parents to pursue a degree in business at La Fiesta Tech. Even though her grades were not high enough, Her father knew the president of the university and managed to get her in anyway. Annabel decided that she would try and get her degree to please her parents but she didn't particularly want to. She didn't have much fun at university as her parents had told her that he would cut her off if she did ANYTHING but study. She eventually graduated with Magna Cumme Laude due to all her hard work and her mother managed to secure her an internship at her friend's office.
Her first few years or so at the office were very dull. She mostly got coffees for people and collected papers from the photocopier but her parents were proud and paid for her to have a nice flat uptown so she didn't complain much. Annabel was upset to find herself becoming quite a one dimensional person as she didn't have time to do any hobbies and she had very few friends. She spent most of her time either working, sleeping or eating with little in between.
However one day, this changed. Her company were backing a nuclear power plant firm and that was when the protesters started. Among them was the young, handsome Joseph Owens who had come from very liberal parents and had decided to follow in their footsteps and protest for what he thought was right. There was an instant connection between Joseph and Annabel which was awkward as they were technically on opposing sides. Annabel would often listen to their protests and found that most of their points were sounded MUCH more plausible that what the Law firm said.
Annabel decided to quit her job, much to her parents horror and join the protesters. She and Joseph began dating and together they fought for what they thought was right. She had a great time and it was the first time she had ever let lose. Joseph and Annabel were married just before they became adults in a simple ceremony by the beach at The Bluffs under the moonlight.
Adulthood[]
Although Annabel and Joseph wanted to continue protesting, they both began to get interested in other matters, mainly having a child. Around this time, Annabel became very close to her neice, Vanessa. She was very fond of Vanessa and saw a lot of herself in her, Vanessa was very sporty and a good child. Around time, Annabel became very broody and she and Joseph began trying to have a baby. However it just wasn't happening and Annabel began to get depressed as she believed it would never happen to her.
However one day, Annabel began to feel rather nauseous. Joseph though that perhaps it was just food poisoning but Annabel had a hunch that it was more than that... and she was right! She took a pregnancy test and found out that she was expecting. Annabel wanted this baby so badly that she began to get stressed about everything, this baby was taking over her life.
Sadly tragedy struck, both of Annabel's parents died in a freak scuba diving accident. The shock was too much for Annabel and combined with the stress of everything, Annabel miscarried her baby. She sunk into a depression and felt that nobody needed her, nobody wanted her. She had no purpose to her life, all she wanted was a baby.
Then, suddenly, she gained a new purpose. They found Vanessa at their door one day, sobbing as she had left home for good. When they asked why she told them that it was because she was a lesbian and they couldn't accept. Annabel and Joseph took Vanessa in and took care of her.
