Royce has always lived with his father Jamison Vale in Flaxen County.
Royce is trying to stay normal after an accident left him and his ex-girlfriend Bry Alder scarred for life. He is very close friends with Jonathon Blake , another of the five students injured during the fire . Royce is a southern gentleman with light hair and skin. Royce seems to have minimal scarring from the burns, but most of his chest and back is brutally damaged. He is the same age as the others, who are all repeating the final semester of their senior year that should have ended a year ago. Since his first encounter with the ghosts haunting his neighbor's house, he has become very anxious and will not willfully discuss ghosts or any other unnatural phenomenon.
He isn't very close with his father, who is a struggling news reporter and works in Bridgeport, almost three hours away. His closest friend is Jon Blake, and he struggled to commit to Bry, his highschool flame, until Flaxen County, ghosts, and the death of Jon pushed him over the edge. Severing his ties, he is trying to move on.
Royce is smart. He got a full scholarship to La Fiesta Tech, which is an up-and-coming university of science, primarily, which is odd because he is not a genius and wants to become a CEO of a Mega-Corporation.
