Xing Yang was born in the 1940's to a working class Chinese family. When Xing was young, she couldn't speak very well or write. Xing was taught by a tutor, who managed to make Xing one of the most educated women in all of China. Xing started teaching at a private school where she met Cho Wong, the daughter of Mei Wong, a noble woman.
Xing had to leave at the climax of Cho's education as she received a message that her mother was gravely ill after working for years. Xing nursed her mother back to health, only for her to fall down the apartment she lived in's stairs and broke her neck.
After Cho's family died, she decided to find Xing as she was the only person left in her life and she didn't want to lose her. Cho managed to track her down and the first thing she did was slap her as she was furious at her for leaving. Then she hugged her. Xing decided she would teach Cho everything she knew as would be the tradition now in any family that should start.
