Thatcher Maylenderton  is a SimNationion politician, political author, and socialite. A communications studies graduate from Sims University, he started his political career as Yes-Man in Twinbrook. Eventually Thatcher was elected Mayor of the town, although he resigned before his term was up to work on Catarina Vanderburg's reelection campaign in Hidden Springs . After Catarina's illness he served at the de facto Leader of Hidden Springs, and was formally elected to the post after Catarina's death.

Thatcher's romantic life was often the subject of gossip in Hidden Springs. He married five times (first and last marriage being to Jessica Colby), and frequently  stepped outside his marriage(s). These events were made public after his death.

In The Sims 3 Thatcher served as the Leader of Hidden Springs of over 25 years. He eventually retired and moved to Appaloosa Plains where he died 16 years later. He returns in The Sims 4 as a successful business man and where he prefers romantic love-affairs over the many one-night-stands he had in The Sims 3.

Thatcher has so far appeared in The Sims 2, The Sims 3, and The Sims 4. Most of his story lines have revolved around his romantic exploits; he has been married 10 times spanning three Sims titles.

Biography[]

Life leading up to The Sims 2[]

According to Thatcher's memories (which were edited in SimPE) he and Ronald Hunt were best friends as teenagers until Thatcher's girlfriend, Ophera broke up with him and dated Ronald instead. Thatcher won a fight against Ronald shortly thereafter and they both aged-up to the young adult stage.

As an adult Thatcher founded the new town of Maylend (built with the in game maps).

At the beginning of The Sims 2 Thatcher and Ronald Hunt live directly across from each other (similar to the set up of Sunset Valley's Landgraab and Alto families). Thatcher lives in a more traditional mansion while Ronald lives in a large boxy estate. How either men came up with their large fortunes is unknown (Thatcher's wealth is revealed to been passed down to him by his parents in the Sims 3).

According to the photos taken before the start of the game Thatcher starts out at the beginning of his campaign for Mayor of Maylend. Thatcher had been the defacto leader of the Maylend, but the small town grew more quickly than expected, and it soon became apparent that the residents would need an actual legal representative to represent them in the Simnationian congress. Thatcher's main rival in this campaign was none other than Ronald Hunt, who had since moved to Maylend with his wife. A lengthy and bitter political battle ensued, but Thatcher always remained one step above his competitor. Maylenderton eventually became the first mayor of Maylend, which is where each of their stories in The Sims 2 begins.

Personal Life[]

Maylenderton briefly dated a woman named Alyson and the couple became engaged shortly after their first date. Alyson called off the engagement on the day of the wedding. Shortly thereafter her dead body was found Downtown. Maylenderton never admitted to any crime, nor was he charged with one.

Relatively private, Maylenderton reportedly married his first wife [name unknown] in a civil ceremony shortly after the demise of his first engagement. The marriage ended in divorce after he was publicly caught having an affair with Malcolm Landgraab IV, whom he married mere days after his (Maylenderton's) divorce became legal. Considerable public sandal ensued as Malcolm himself was engaged to a woman named Katherine Kirkwood while the affair took place. Landgraab publicly broke off his engagement to Katherine Kirkwood in order to marry Maylenderton. Landgraab died in an accidental house-fire less than two years later. An investigation by the Maylend-and-Pleasantview police force cleared Maylenderton of any wrongdoing shortly thereafter and he moved to a new house across town.

Maylenderton remained good friends with his rival Ronald Hunt's, wife, Ophera Hunt. After years of public speculation, Ophera announced through the media that she and her husband Ronald were divorcing. She was later caught by the paparazzi kissing Maylenderton in front of a large crowd at the bistro Downtown. Ophera officially filed for divorce from Ronald Hunt the next day citing irreconcilable differences. Ophera quietly moved into Thatcher's house and they had a small civil ceremony five months to-the-day after Ophera and Ronald's divorce. Their son, Ryan, was born 10 months later. The animosity between the two rivals (Thatcher and Ronald) subsided as they both grew into their old age.

The remainder of Thatcher's life was relatively quiet. He continued working as the mayor of Maylend until his death from old age; he never retired. Ophera Maylenderton died 18 years after she and Thatcher married, when their son was 17. Thatcher then married one of Ophera's best friends [name unknown] in order to "cope with the grief." The pair divorced nine months later. Maylenderton then married Shelby Barrett and quickly had an additional five children in rapid succession with her after he was an elder; these children grew up out of the public eye. His oldest son, Ryan, was a surgeon, before briefly and unsuccessfully running for office in Riverblossom Hills. Ryan married Ronald Hunt's oldest daughter, Emily (with whom Ronald had with his second wife, Lucy Hanby). Thatcher died as an elder surrounded by his family.

Thatcher died shortly before his son, Ryan, who died prematurely as an adult like his mother had decades before. Thatcher Maylederton has two grandchildren, Thurgood and Flora, who live in Riverblossom Hills.

Trivia[]

  • Thatcher was originally in The Sims 2 in 2012.
  • Thatcher was originally going to more a ruthless, cruel political person (which is why I had him "orchestrate" the murder of the woman who left him at the alter) but then I decided to make him more likable as the game went on. His subsequent in-game appearances have completely forgone the "dead fiancé" story.

Childhood[]

Thatcher Maylenderton was born in Bridgeport, SimNation, to Lucid and Diana Maylenderton. Lucid was a Powerbroker and Diana was an actress. The Maylenderton's marriage was unstable at best, with Diana having multiple affairs out in the open and Lucid pretending not to notice. The Maylenderton's had been in a much publicized on-again-off-again relationship for over 10 years before Diana became pregnant with Thatcher. They married while Diana was heavily pregnant, and Thatcher was born just days after the wedding. The marriage ended when Thatcher was six. His mothers open affairs and his fathers reluctence to do anything about it left Thatcher with a skewed view of how a healthy relationship should be, and this followed him for the rest of his life.

Thatcher grew up in a large Victorian mansion and did will in school. He was very popular. He grew up to be a teen and had a secret romantic relationship with Sebastian Striker. Diana eventually married Matthew Hamming and Thatcher and his mother moved into Matthews modern mansion. The Hamming-Maylenderton marriage ended suddenly when a fire started in the living room of the home and killed both Matthew and Sebastian. Diana was rumored to have set the fire, but this was never proven. She quickly moved her and her son from the wealthy Bridgeport to small town of Twinbrook, which only furthered the rumors that she killed her husband and was running away. Lucid sold his apartment in Bridgeport, transferred to the Twinbrook Branch of his buisness, and moved with Diana and Thatcher.

Life in Twinbrook and College[]

Thatcher moved to a fully furnished family home in Twinbrook with his mother, while his father moved into brick-tudor across town. Transitioning from the busy city to a quiet area was difficult for Thatcher, and he was nowhere near as popular in town as he had been previously. Diana taught him how to drive, and bought him his first car when he got his license. Diana continued to pursue romantic relationships and was romantically linked to many men around town, most notably DeAndre Wolfe.

Shortly after Wolfe broke up with Diana, she died in a fire. Her death was later ruled a suicide. Thatcher moved in with his father, who had since gotten engaged to Sofia Carlton. Sofia and Thatcher didn't get along very well, and mostly avoided each other. Lucid and Sofia married shortly after Thatcher moved in.

Thatcher's mother's house was been rebuilt by the city and he made friends with the family (Paul and Wendy Hunt, and their teenage son, Ronald) that moved in. Thatcher and fellow teenager and Ronald developed a friendship that would last many years.

Lucid and Sofia's marriage ended after less than three years when Lucid died in a fire. Thatcher was never able to prove it, but he always suspected Sofia to be behind it. Thatcher and Sofia lived together for a year (till he turned 18), until Thatcher was able to legally claim his parents vast fortune(s), and kicked Sofia out. Now a young adult, and despite having enough money to never need to go to college, Thatcher enrolled at Sims University as a communications studies major. His best friend, Ronald, went with him.

Thatcher was an exceptional student at the University. Student's remembered him as work-obsessed and a perfectionist, but also friendly and gregarious. He made many friends during his stay at the college, including his future wife Ophera Harding. Thatcher was often seen around campus chatting with Ronald and Ophera, and the three became minor celebrities on campus due to their friendly nature. During their final semester, Thatcher and Ronald shared a house and both were seen bringing dates home late at night. This caused problems between Thatcher and Ronald, as Ronald had since begun a relatrionship with Ophera and Thatcher didn't like that Ronald was constantly cheating on her. Despite living together, the two friends did not talk to each other all semester. Thatcher graduated with a 4.0 in communications studies, and Ronald graduated with a degree in Fine Arts. After graduation, Thatcher let Ronald live with him in Lucid's house, and Ophera moved in a few weeks later. Thatcher never told Ophera about Ronald's affairs.

Mayor of Twinbrook and Move to Hidden Springs[]

Thatcher was eager to get into the political field, and his high grades in college proved he was more than capable of doing well in the world of politics. He took a job as Yes-Man and within a year was elected to city council. Word of this rising political star spread fast around SimNation, after a late start on the campaign trail, Thatcher was elected Mayor of Twinbrook by the widest margin in the towns history. Immediately after this Thatcher was contacted by Catarina Vanderburg, the Leader of Hidden Springs, to run her reelection campaign, with a position on her council promised to him if she win. Thatcher took a year to decide, and eventually took Catarina up on her offer.

Move to Hidden Springs, Promotions, First and Second Marriages, and Divorce[]

Thatcher moved to a mock-Tudor style house in Hidden Springs, while his friends Ronald Hunt and Ophera Harding bought the tacky mansion directly across the street. The vast differences in overall appearance (one being more classically designed, and the other a cookie cutter mint-green mcmansion) was often parodied in the media. Thatcher went right to work with Catarina on her reelection campaign, and she narrowly won the election eight months later. As promised, Thatcher became part of Catarina's council, but was later deemed overqualified for the position. A series of promotions followed over the next three years and eventually Thatcher became Catarina's Vice President. The pair made a highly-publicized appearance together at Ronald and Ophera's wedding, fueling rumors that the two were having an affair. Both Thatcher and Catarina denied this. They then agreed to stop attending events together so the media would not hypothesize about their relationship. Although they were quite fond of each other, Thatcher and Catarina's relationship remained professional until her death.

Thatcher met Jessica Jacobs while out on the campaign trail for Catarina. Jessica, a paparazzi, was rumored have spread the stories of Thatcher and Catarina's "romantic" relationship. Thatcher initially went to have a talk with her to see if the allegations were true, and the pair hit it off. The couple married after 9 months together. Two months after the wedding, Thatcher finished his first political novel, 'The Rise of Thatcher Maylenderton." Thatcher quickly grew bored with his relationship with Jessica and had affairs with many men. These affairs were not known until after Thatcher's death. He had at least four brief affairs with men around town. While Jessica never found out who Thatcher was having affairs with (she did not know they were with men, either), she initially stood by him. Eventually she asked for a divorce, and secretly began a relationship with Christoff Colby, who himself had just divorced his wife. Scandal broke out when it was revealed that Jessica was pregnant and Christoff was the father of the baby, so Thatcher had to reveal to the public that he and Jessica were divorcing after five years of marriage. Jessica had the baby, a boy, while still legally married to Thatcher. As part of the divorce settlement, Thatcher kept his house and expensive car, but Jessica was allowed to take all the money the two had together, leaving Thatcher completely broke for the first (and only) time in his life.

Thatcher became Hidden Springs de facto leader after Catarina was diagnosed with cancer. Although it was never formally announced, the transfer of power was met with a mostly positive reaction from citizens. Nearly one year to the day of his divorce from Jessica, Thatcher eloped with Ella Carlisle at city hall. Thatcher filed for divorce after Ella and Thatcher's best friend Ronald Hunt were found to be having an affair. The marriage lasted 10 months and produced no children. A pre-nup was signed, so neither party gained nor lost anything in the divorce. It was his second divorce just under two years, and citizens started questioning his ability to lead. Thatcher vowed to never get married again.

Leader of Hidden Springs, Third Marriage and Fatherhood[]

After Thatcher and Ella Maylenderton divorced, Thatcher spent time writing a new political book and a life story. Both were finished and published at the same time. Ophera Hunt moved in with Thatcher after she and Ronald got divorce, and eventually started dating. Shortly after Thatcher and Ophera began their relationship Catarina Vanderburg died, and an emergency election was put in place. Thatcher won by yet another wide margin. Although he had been running the town for nearly four years already, only now was Thatcher the Official Leader of Hidden Springs. Despite vowing to never get married again Thatcher and Ophera got engaged and married. The marriage announcement garnered mixed commentary from fans and critics, as Thatcher's love-life was now starting to overtake his political conquests in the news. The couple decided to move from Thatcher's home of 15 years to a large estate on a hill. A year and a half after the wedding, Thatcher and Ophera announced that they were expecting their first child together, a boy. Their son, Ryan Maylenderton, was welcomed into the world shortly after. After Ryan's birth, the family moved from their estate (after only two years) to a family sized craftsman in the middle of town. Thatcher then adopted a kitten, Dionysus. The media joked about how long Thatcher's marriage to Ophera would last, with many saying five years maximum. Despite the jokes, Thatcher and Ophera were married for over 18 years before her death

Thatcher disliked raising a child, and found it difficult to connect with his new son. As a result, Ophera did most of the child-rearing. Thatcher and Ryan developed a close relationship when he became a teenager. Thatcher taught Ryan how to drive, as his mother had taught him.

Relationship with Jessica Colby[]

Thatcher's first wife, Jessica Jacobs, married Christoff Colby immediately after the divorce from Thatcher went through. Taking the surname Colby, Jessica moved with Christoff to a new home where she became employed in business. After Christoff's sudden death, Jessica and her son, Jonathon, moved into the house next door to Thatcher's craftsman house. She had joined politics right before her husband death, and spent the next 10 years working her way through promotions and elections, eventually becoming Thatcher's Vice President. According to Jessica's memoir, She and Thatcher had a brief affair after assuming the vice presidents office. According to Colby the affair ended after Ophera joined politics as her secretary.

The pair would start another affair five years later which resulted in a pregnancy that Jessica hid from the public. She had a closed adoption, although she quickly figured out who her baby (a boy named Wesly) had been adopted to. She did not tell Thatcher of the pregnancy until the baby was a child, and neither Thatcher nor Jessica told Wesly's adopted parents the truth. According to Jessica, the affair and pregnancy caused the demise of Jessica's marriage to Nicholas Riverhawk, but Ophera never found out.

Death of Ophera and Fourth Marriage[]

Just days after Ryan's 18th birthday, Ophera Maylenderton suffered a massive heart attack and died at Hidden Springs Memorial hospital. Thatcher was devastated and started having affairs with many people around town, looking to fill the void that Ophera's death had caused. The resulting depression and erratic behavior became too much for Ryan to bear, and he bought his own house, leaving Thatcher alone for the first time in over 20 years. Jessica Colby could see that Thatcher had no grip on reality at this point and had him move in with her. His craftsman home that he shared with Ophera was in shambles due to bad renovations done by Thatcher to keep his mind off Ophera's death. A small fire caused by an inattentive Thatcher also chard part off the living room. As a result, the house was sold at a loss.

Nine months after Ophera's death Thatcher married Blake Grayson. Blake was Ophera's best friends, and Thatcher had known her for over 20 years. The two didn't get married for love, but rather because they were both grieving the loss of Ophera. The marriage ended after eight months.

Stepping Down, Second Marriage to Jessica Colby, Elderhood[]

Thatcher now realized he could no longer perform his job as Leader of Hidden Springs to the best of his ability. He stepped down from the position after over 25 years of service. Jessica Colby, being Vice President, assumed the office immediately after. Thatcher continued to write political novels during this time, and had now written over 15 books. After living together for three years he and Jessica started dating. He and his son had now reconciled and Ryan got married to Emily Hunt (Ronald Hunt's daughter with his wife Lucy). After the wedding had ended Thatcher asked Jessica to marry him. They got married less than a month later. Shortly after, they both aged to elders. Jessica retired as Leader of Hidden Springs, and they lived a quiet life together for a few years. Eventually, Ryan had two children, Thurgood and Flora Maylenderton, who Thatcher loved to spend time with.

Move to Appaloosa Plains and Death[]

Ryan Maylenderton had originally taken job in politics and was expected to follow in his father's footsteps. Ryan quit after his father married Blake Grayson in an effort to keep away from him. He got a job in the medical field and eventually was asked to transfer to the hospital in Appaloosa Plains, SimNation. Seeing as nothing was keeping them in Hidden Springs anymore, Thatcher and Jessica decided to go move with them. They bought a blue house directly across the street from Ryan and Emily, and visited them often. The final 16 years of his life were unremarkable and quiet compared to his years as a politician. He died of old age after being married to Jessica for 18 years.

Young Adulthood[]

Thatcher returns in The Sims 4. Unlike his appearance in The Sims 3, Thatcher starts off as any other newly made sim (in other words he wasn't born wealthy) and joined the political career. He is friends with Jessica Jacobs and Ophera Hunt, but doesn't know many other people yet.

Trivia[]

  • This is the first game in which Thatcher is an adult and does not know Ronald Hunt very well. The other games had their lives pretty connected by young adulthood, but here they barely know each other. Thatcher is friends with Ophera, though.
