Come Back to Me[]

"Pierce, you are so freaking crazy!"

Brigit was pacing nervously around the ground floor of the mansion, initially holding Tessa but had put her down so that she could express herself more clearly through hand gesticulations.

The team had already been picked for the mission to Aurora Skies. The vampires would be Elvira, Vladimir, Morrigan, and Beau. Jupiter had revealed to me that he was a witch due to his birth mother being one, and had made the group along with Kairi Wilson of Moonlight Falls, Alana Kahale of Sunlit Tides (who Elvira supposedly knew personally), and Connor Frio of Sunset Valley. Gundrun had been saved before she could be turned, and had since chosen to become a fairy so that she could navigate around Aurora Skies, and on top of that she had insisted. She would be one of four fairies, along with Ayesha Ansari of Sunset Valley and Carlotta and Anita Lobos of Riverview, whom Pierce had known personally in his childhood. And the werewolves that would accompany the group were Argus Brown, Param Singh, and Navita Singh of Moonlight Falls.

The only problem was that there was one more werewolf needed to go. Brigit didn't care, until her husband told her that he intended to take that spot.

Brigit was yelling at the top of her lungs. "You have a heart condition, Pierce. You have a freaking METAL BOX IN YOUR HEART. Doesn't that tell you anything, maybe that you should just swallow your pride and let it go? I don't want you dying out there Pierce. I need you, and Contessa needs you. Your father and your stepmother, your sister, and especially your brother need you, Pierce. I can't let you leave. I just can't. There's too much at stake if you go. No pun intended."

I groaned. This was the sixth or seventh time she had told me this.

"I know that you want to be a part of this, so badly. I know that. But just suck it up for once."

Rage boiled in my chest. I had heard enough from Brigit, but I didn't want to hurt her by doing what I wanted to do. She was right, and I felt shame from being angry at her. She was always right, and I had always listened to her. But this time was different: I had refused to acknowledge what she said.

"I can't stand that men do this all the time, They never listen. They have to have everything their own way. You're going to leave your family to help someone that you don't even know, at a time when they need you most? I know you're trying to be nice Pierce, but you're gonna get yourself killed."

I had heard enough. I got up from the sofa and walked slowly over to Brigit. She stared at me and stood in my way, but as I kept approaching she cautiously stepped back as I stepped forwards.

"Pierce, what the hell are you doing?" she said, confused. "If you try and hit me, I swear..."

But Brigit didn't get to finish her sentence. She was up against the back wall and I got closer until we met each other. I wrapped my arms around her waist and leaned in to kiss her, and for a second, our lips touched. I pulled away slowly, opening my eyes to see her beautiful face.

"Just shut up, Brigit," I said, smiling. Before I knew it she had her lips on mine, and our kiss was heartfelt and passionate, not like the ones that we shared on our way out of the house or when we woke up, but like the first we had shared, when she had tried to dull my pain by sharing our first kiss. We were back up against the wall, my hands on her hips and her arms around my shoulders. When she finally pulled away, she had a spark in her eye, one that I hadn't seen in a long time, since she had been caught up with the hassles of motherhood.

Brigit stared into my eyes for a few seconds before she spoke. "I obviously can't stop you Pierce," she said, her voice a bit woozy as if she had too much to drink. "If you want to turn yourself into a werewolf and go to freaking Aurora Skies, then you can go ahead. I won't stand in your way. But promise me, Pierce... promise me that you'll come back to me."

I stared into Brigit's eyes and smiled, and it was contagious. "I promise you, Brigit Marilyn VanPyre, that I will come back to you." And then we were back up against the wall, living in the moment, in each other's arms, wishing that the moment would last forever.

I began to walk out the door when Brigit grabbed me by the arm. "I love you Pierce," she said.

I embraced her, and as I slowly turned the knob that would open a new chapter of my life and felt myself slipping out of Brigit's loving arms, I whispered into her ear: "I love you too."

Then I took off at lightning speed, running off into the night, ready for whatever came my way.
