Fences, which are also used as railings in the game, can be found in build mode. Fences act much like walls, separating areas and preventing movement between areas. However, unlike walls, objects, doors and windows cannot be hung on them. In The Sims 2 and The Sims 3, passage through fences/railings is made possible by gates.
