The morning of Rick's and Serena's wedding, Doreen enlisted the help of Flora Goodfellow to enlarge his ears that was only supposed to last a day. It's been several years and the ears are still enlarged – but Rick rather likes his new look as does his wife. - Rick Durwood is a clear reference to the character Darrin Stephens from the popular 1960s television series Bewitched, as both he and Darrin are married to a witch and who are both tormented by their disapproving mother-in-law.
- While the Durwood family serve as a parody of the Stephens family from Bewitched, they are actually the second reference to the popular sitcom. The first was the Claremont family of Lucky Palms, wherein Morgan Claremont stood in for Rick as a parody of the deuteragonist, Darrin Stephens.
