A washing machine is an object in specific The Sims 3 packs and in The Sims 4: Laundry Day Stuff, which washes clothes.
For a washing machine to work properly, there must be a dryer or a functional clothesline on the same lot. On a residential lot, a lack of a dryer will result in clothes never becoming dry; while on community lots, it causes no available actions to be available when clicking on the washing machine. Placing one or more hampers as well is strongly recommended on residential lots, but are not outright required.
Especially in the Sims 3 era, placing a washing machine on a residential lot changes a household's gameplay mechanics dramatically. All of a sudden, they will begin throwing off clothes (Usually on the floor) every time they go to bed or when putting on clothes after a shower.
In Buy Mode, they can be found in both "Appliances → Large Appliances" and "Bathroom → Laundry".
