Fines are penalties that can occur in most games in The Sims series. Fines subtract money from the household's funds. If there are not enough to cover the fine, household funds will be reduced to zero. In addition, objects may be repossessed, though this will depend on the game and the reason for the fine.

The SimsEdit

The Sims fines are different from The Sims 2 and The Sims Stories. Whenever a fine occurs, a sound will play. Note: The Sims for console, The Sims Bustin' Out and the Mac OS X version is based on the Windows version of The Sims.

The Sims and The Sims Bustin' Out (Console)Edit

PoliceEdit

TS Police Warning dialog

Police warning in The Sims for Windows. (Same message will appear in The Sims for console and The Sims Bustin' Out)

A fine will occur if the police are called when there isn't a burglar. The first call will usually result in a warning. The next calls after the first one may either result in another warning or a fine. If the family cannot pay the fine, objects will be taken away.

On the Windows version, there is a possible glitch that the player will not be fined for calling the police and always receive a warning regardless of how many times they were called.

FirefighterEdit

TS Firefighter fine

Firefighter fine in The Sims for Windows.

Calling the firefighter will result in a fine. Unlike the police, there is no warning message. If the family has less than §100, objects will be taken away. The fine is §100 in these games.

Chemistry SetEdit

If a Sim makes or drinks a potion from the chemistry set during the daytime, he or she can be fined if the set is outside.[TS:LL] The fine is §500.

OthersEdit

It is possible for a family to be fined for making too much noise. This usually occurs if a party if thrown or if the baby is crying.

Some chance cards may result in a fine. If the family does not have enough to cover the amount of the fine, its funds will be reduced to zero, but objects will not be repossessed.

The Sims Bustin' Out (Handheld)Edit

If a Sim is arrested, a §100 fine can be paid to get him or her out of jail.

The Urbz: Sims in the CityEdit

ConsoleEdit

Fines can occur if an Urb passes out or runs out of Bladder while in a district. It is possible to be fined if for making too much of a mess, such as having too much trash.

Unlike other games, calling the police or fire department when there is no emergency will not result in a fine.

HandheldEdit

As in Bustin' Out, if the player's Urb is arrested, he/she can pay a §100 fine to get out of jail.

The Sims 2 and The Sims StoriesEdit

Fines in The Sims 2 and The Sims Stories are different from The Sims. Unlike in The Sims, a sound will not play in The Sims 2 and The Sims Stories whenever a fine occurs. As with The Sims, objects will be taken away if the player cannot pay the fine; funds will not normally be reduced to §0. If the player has no objects and has less than §500, the police officer/firefighter will criticize the family for wasting their time in a similar fashion to the repo-man, and then leave.

PoliceEdit

TS2-TSS Fine Message

Being fined in The Sims 2 and The Sims Stories. Firefighter message is the same as the police.

Police in The Sims 2 and The Sims Stories will always fine the Sim without warning. The police officer will lecture the Sim and fine the Sim §500. The officer may take away an object if the player has less than §500. The lecture can trigger fury.[TS2:NL]

FirefighterEdit

The firefighter will lecture and then fine the Sim. The fine is now §500. Like the police fine, the lecture can trigger fury. The firefighter will also repossess objects if the family has less than §500.

OtherEdit

When a college student is hacking grades, there is a chance he or she will be caught and fined.[TS2:U]
TSS Fine result

A result of being fined. The Sim is furious with the police officer.

Some chance cards may result in a fine. If the family does not have enough to cover the amount of the fine, its funds will be reduced to zero, but objects will not be repossessed.

The Sims 2 (Other Platforms)Edit

ConsoleEdit

A §250 fine can occur if a Sim calls the police or fire department when there is no emergency. As in other games, objects will be taken away if the family has less money than the amount of the fine.

GBAEdit

As in The Urbz, a §100 fine can be paid if a Sim is arrested.

DSEdit

Every time the a Sim is arrested, there is a §200 fine.

The Sims 2 Pets (Console)Edit

PS2, Gamecube, PSP and WiiEdit

A §250 fine will be assessed if a Sim player calls the police or fire department when there is no emergency. If the Sim has §249 or less, objects will be taken away.

The Sims 3 and The Sims 3 for ConsoleEdit

The Sims 3 fines work almost the same as The Sims 2 and The Sims Stories except that a lecture will no longer severely decrease relationship.

Sims 3 Police Fine

A fine in The Sims 3 for Windows and Mac OS X. (Post-Ambitions message box)

PoliceEdit

Like The Sims 2 and The Sims Stories, the Sim will be lectured and then fined §500. The officer will also take away an object if the household has less than §500 but funds will not be reduced to §0. If the household has no objects that can be taken away and less than §500, nothing will happen but the Sim will still be lectured and the message of being fined will still appear. If testingcheatsenabled is used to spawn the police, the player will be fined (unless the burglar is spawned) as if they were called.

Fire DepartmentEdit

Sims 3 Fire Fine

Fined by the firefighter in The Sims 3 (PC/Mac).

Like the police, the Firefighter will fine the Sim §500. If the household has less than §500 then the firefighter will take away an object but funds will not be reduced to §0. If the household has no objects that can be taken away and has less than §500, nothing will happen but the Sim will still be lectured and the message for being fined will still appear.

If the Firefighter was called (Either by phone or by fire alarm) and the fire was put out prior to the firefighter coming, the player will not be fined when they arrive. Like the police, if testingcheatsenabled is used to force the firefighter to spawn, the player will be fined unless if there is a fire.

Detonating/SmashingEdit

In The Sims 3: Ambitions and The Sims 3 Deluxe, a Sim can be fined for detonating objects (or using Smash as a Simbot)[confirmation needed] outside of the Junkyard or the Sim's home. At first, this will result in a warning, but after the first time, it will result in a fine. Fines may be cheap (§50) or expensive (§175,000) but this depends on the cost of the object. With Late Night, the Sim may also get the Publicly Disgraced moodlet. While this does not automatically take away cash, it adds to the Sim's bills. Detonating objects in other Sims' homes does not cause a fine but this is considered inappropriate behavior and you will be warned accordingly unless your Sim has the relevant traits or lifetime rewards.
