Forums: IndexCommunity discussionsDevelopment studio notability | Forum new Post

Looking at the Maxis article, I've noticed that every studio that's developed a release for the series has been listed there, two of which aren't even subsidiaries of Maxis - Playfish and EA Black Box, the latter of whom were closed down earlier this year and were never a subsidiary of Maxis, so I'm not sure where that theory is coming from.

Also, I've noticed that titles developed by The Sims Studio have had their studio renamed to "Maxis Redwood" on the game articles. While it's known that The Sims Studio is part of the EA Maxis label, I can't find any source to give an actual new name for the studio (aside from a Maxis studio being based in Redwood Shores).

What I'd like to discuss is how we should treat development studios involved with the series outside of the Maxis brand in terms of notability, as in whether external studios like Playfish and Black Box should be given their own independent articles or not, and how we should handle the developer listing on the game articles, as in should they keep their initial developer name of The Sims Studio or not.

The Maxis article is currently in a bit of a mess and gives off some misinformation regarding this issue, so hopefully the outcome of this forum would allow us to remedy that. Lost Labyrinth Flag united kingdom england (c)(b) 23:40, August 5, 2013 (UTC)

Discussion[]

Just a brief note, if we do decide to create articles for individual, non-Maxis studios then we can, if we want to, list other games created by the studio (if any) to make the article less of a stub and to bring it in line with other real world-based articles. For example, EA Black Box have worked on the Need for Speed series and the Skate series. Lost Labyrinth Flag united kingdom england (c)(b) 00:10, August 7, 2013 (UTC)

I don't know if this is completely off the topic you've brought up, but I've noticed that several game articles have the 'developer' parameter filled with the current name of studios, rather than the names that were used at the time. The name we use on the articles should match the names used at the time the game was published. As for studios... if they are under the EA banner then it seems like Electronic Arts would be a suitable home for them. If not, then it's worth creating an article for; basically raid the studio's Wikipedia article to give a basic overview of it. -- LostInRiverview talk ~ blog 03:52, August 7, 2013 (UTC)
I've run Bawt over those articles to remedy that. Lost Labyrinth Flag united kingdom england (c)(b) 10:40, August 7, 2013 (UTC)

I think that the non-Maxis developers of The Sims Series should have their own separate article if they're not apart of Maxis. However, if these articles are stub-worthy, we could possibly create a page for all of them, such as Developers of The Sims Series or something like that. And I think we could list the bigger games they worked on (other than The Sims Series) in that article, too. ~ Waikikamukow (Anyone wanna chat?) 22:19, August 9, 2013 (UTC)

Discussion hasn't made much headway, but it's still unresolved so the best choice is to bump it. Hopefully we can resolve this. -- LostInRiverview talk ~ blog 22:21, August 22, 2013 (UTC)

Conclusion[]

No consensus was reached in the thread. Thus, the door is now open for users to act boldly in resolving this issue individually. If the issue should come up again for discussion, please do so in a new thread. -- LostInRiverview talk ~ blog 20:22, September 6, 2013 (UTC)
