I recently re-installed my Sims games on my and my kids computers... I have all of them from the first to Makin Magic. the problem is that on my and my sons computer, they run in a tiny box in the middle of the screen surrounded by black borders. That's not something I've seen before, I need a way to fix it... a google search only came up with one similar event, but the " -f" suggestion didn't work... neither does running it in any compatibility mode nor changing my resolution... in fact changing my resolution makes the game smaller and the black borders bigger... I'm out of ideas... I know it's possible to patch this to run normally, as I've seem people do such things with games off Steam (like X-COM)
I would REALLY appreciate some help with this. Sims are very hard to deal with on such tiny screens, anyone that could help me make the game run at fullscreen... or at least a larger screen would have my undying gratitude.
as for problem 2, my daughter's PC is a Windows 7 (I know, horrible) but it won't let her evict, save, or demolish. the "couldn't evict" message... anyway, I tried activating the "run as administrator" but it just stops working all together when I do that... so any help wit that would be great too.
lastly, please do not say anything like "go buy sims 2/3" or "why are you playing 1 when 2 and 3 are better" I have my reasons, please respect them. and please, PLEASE help me and my real family deal with our Sim families.

- Haha, I know what you mean. I miss TS1 as well. I haven't heard of this problem, but I'd say you a) have a problem with your monitor, or b) need an older graphics card. Keep in mind TS1 was released ages ago, and isn't really going to run well on new, fancy computers. As for your second problem, Windows 7 has numerous problems with The Sims 1. I remember my computer back in the day (6-7 years ago) had heaps of problems running TS1, and we never worked it out. I'd suggest to try using Windows XP for your computer. Not that it matters at this point probably, but the setting you are looking for would be screen scaling in your graphics card settings, turn it on to stretch screen to proper size. I had the same thing happen with a brand new computer in 2014.

- First, you should run it in Windows XP (Service Pack 2) compatibility mode. As for the video, even Makin' Magic was released before widescreen, high-res monitors became commonplace, much less standard. It only supports the 4:3 aspect ration of CRTs, and only at 800x600 and 1024x768 - which was a high resolution at the time. IOW, if you try to run it at fullscreen on a modern monitor, it'll be all stretched. On a modern monitor, you should use -w to run in Windowed Mode, and should probably use either -r800x600 or -r1024x768 to force resolution.
