The Get a Life mode is installed in the console version of The Sims. It gives you different objectives to accomplish, which unlock various items in the Buy area of the free play mode.

In this mode, you play one Sim (whom you create), and move through various missions and houses. Your Sim will live with other characters during this time. While you can control these other characters, some of them don't do skill-boosting activities, and they rarely clean or cook.

Dream House Edit

The Get a Life mode begins after the player has created a character. The character is found in a nice house with a hot tub in the middle. All of a sudden, a character of the opposite sex appears, and kisses the player's character. The Sim is called Randy Hottie if your Sim is female, and Roxy Hottie if your Sim is male. S/he then gets into the hot tub and asks the player's character to join him/her.

  • If the character gets in, the character suddenly hears a woman's voice saying "stop daydreaming".
  • If the character doesn't get in, she/he says, "You never joined me in the hot tub, I'm out of here!".

Money from Mom Edit

Money from Mom begins after the player's character wakes up from his or her daydream. The Sim is actually living in their mom's house and wants to move out.

When the Sim has completed everything and gotten a job, Mom will say that she has found a house for them to rent, and the Sim can finally move out.

Goals and rewards Edit

Goals:

  • Borrow §800 from Mom.
  • Make a dinner without starting a fire.
  • Fix the television.
  • Get a job.
  • Pay the bills (look below).

The "Pay the bills" goal only occurs if the Sim remains in the house for more than 3 days.

Rewards:

Goal Reward
Borrow §800 from Mom. The Museum Two-Player Game
Make a dinner without starting a fire. Aromamaster Whifferpuff Gold
Fix the television. Vanity Table
Finish in under 24 hours. Beejaphone Guitar

Reality Bites Edit

The Sim has moved to a new house for the time being. Nobody's living with them. The thing is, the house is a mess. Everything's broken, there is trash everywhere, and the toilet's clogged.

A new character, either Mimi (if the character is female) or Dudley (if the character is male), will come over and say that the character can stay in the house for free if they clean the house and fix all the stuff.

While living here, the Sim will encounter two neighbors: Pierre and Pauline Peacock.

After the Sim has accomplished all of their goals, they move in with Dudley/Mimi and become roommates.

Goals and rewards Edit

Goals:

  • Clean up the place.
  • Fix the broken stuff.
  • Upgrade the house (to about 45,000 simoleons).
  • Get promoted to career level two.

Party Animals Edit

The Sim has moved into another house, which Dudley/Mimi already lives in. It's time to throw a party!

  • Get promoted to career level four.
  • Get promoted to career level five.
  • Upgrade your home (to about 50,000+ simoleons).

Hot to Trot Edit

The person the Sim is living with at this point is only temporary, as it's time to find a person to marry. In this mission, the Sim must be promoted another two levels, and must throw another party. But don't just throw one as soon as you get there: Malolm will instantly end it; you must upgrade the abode. After that's done you can now throw parties. At this party, the character has to find someone of the opposite sex and try to "score" with them. When they do, they get married and move in with him/her. But if your sim doesn't make enough money (which means being at level 6 for example) your date will say, "You don't make enough money".

  • Get promoted to career level six.
  • Get promoted to career level seven.

Who Loves Ya Baby Edit

The Sim is now in a house with their spouse. It's time to make a family, and make sure they, and the Sim, are successful. You can get your spouse a job and have them work, too. But however, your roommate from Hot to Trot will no longer be available to talk to, invite, nor appear on your friends list (the reason remains unknown).

After the children remain in school and the main player completes all of his/her goals, the family moves to another house.

Once the goals for this mission are completed, the storyline itself is completed.
