Changing first names with SimPE[]

I guess changing first names with SimPE isn't really the best way to go, because I've just done it with one of my Sims, but I can't re-open the neighbourhood folder. I'll see if I can use the teleporter shrub and/or painting to fix this issue that is annoying as hell. But if I can't fix it, I'll have to replace the neighbourhood with my backup copy. >:( -- C.Syde (talk | contribs) 10:46, April 12, 2015 (UTC)

The stupid game crashed upon loading the neighbourhood. Oh well, neighbourhood deleted, backup inserted. It's just lucky I hadn't done anything else with that neighbourhood since I backed it up last. So I will only have lost a day's work of package editing. I can't believe it. In all the times I've changed a Sim's first name in SimPE, I've never once had this issue. I guess it must have something to do with upgrading to a modern SimPE. It mustn't have approved of what I did with the older SimPE. Only I did the same thing yesterday, and it didn't have any problems then. Lesson learnt, at least. -- C.Syde (talk | contribs) 10:54, April 12, 2015 (UTC)
What could possibly have happened? What name did you change from and into? Nikel Talk Vote! 11:24, April 13, 2015 (UTC)
I was trying to correct Joseph Ng's first name, because I accidentally re-named him "Jordan Ng" and not "Joseph Ng" - his name is randomised when the sub-hood is generated. -- C.Syde (talk | contribs) 11:32, April 13, 2015 (UTC)
You mean you renamed him twice? Maybe the game will act up if you rename a Sim twice in a short span... I don't know. I'm just making guesses here, and it doesn't seem to make sense. Nikel Talk Vote! 17:04, April 13, 2015 (UTC)
On a trivial note, this is the second time you mistook his name as Jordan Ng. :p Nikel Talk Vote! 17:09, April 13, 2015 (UTC)
Well actually I made this mistake at the same time. I just didn't realise that I'd made the mistake in the actual game until a year later. And it wasn't in a short span. -- C.Syde (talk | contribs) 23:08, April 13, 2015 (UTC)

Changing names with SimPE, again[]

From what I've experienced, some versions of SimPE appear to be more flexible than others. The SimPE that I used to use (which I still have on my granddad's computer) - 0.72.1.33855 - tends to let you change a Sim's first name safely. This is just from what I've experienced, but when I changed to - 0.73.44.35711 - and tried to change one of my Sim's first names, the neighbourhood that I was editing screwed up, forcing me to delete the neighbourhood and restore my backup copy of that neighbourhood - luckily I only lost a day's work. ― C.Syde (talk | contribs) 09:13, July 10, 2015 (UTC)

The Sims 2[]

I usually rename Sims using the Tombstone of Life and Death. But since it isn't listed on the page I'm not sure it's a good method to change a Sims' first name. Should it be addad to the article or could it cause corruption? Gvaudoin (talk) 23:05, February 17, 2018 (UTC)

The information to rename Sims using the TofL&D was in an early version of the game guide, but looks like I had removed it in 2014 for some (mistaken) beliefs (Guess it was a mistake to take El Presidente too seriously). I don't see any evidence to suggest that this is unsafe though. —k6ka 🍁 (Talk · Contributions) 01:12, February 18, 2018 (UTC)
I've used it on my Sims many times, and nothing bad ever happened. I did trigger an error on one occasion, but I'm pretty sure that had nothing to do with whether it was safe or not. I had to restart my PC though, since it was in 2011 when I was much less experienced, and had no idea that I could just click "Reset" and the error would go away. So I have always been fairly confident that it is very safe to do. ― C.Syde (talk | contribs) 04:02, February 25, 2018 (UTC)
