The Genie is an NPC that Sims can summon by cleaning an Antique Lamp[TS:LL] or rubbing the "Dusty Old Lamp"[TS2:FT]. The Genie will grant wishes which can have good or bad consequences.

The Genie will give a Sim two choices for a wish, and these wishes can have good or bad consequences. The lamp can be cleaned once a day (by only one Sim), and every day after for as long as the lamp is on the lot, however you can sell a lamp after wishing (but not for full price) and buy a new one, with another wish, for as many wishes as you want with no waiting. This sounds better than it is, as in The Sims, the genie is not particularly adept, and wishes almost always go wrong. Also, the wishes that could be chosen sometimes had names like "Air" and "Fire", so players often did not know just what they were wishing for in the first place.

The Genie was introduced in FreeTime and is found in the "Dusty Old Lamp". He grants 3 wishes to the object (not per Sim). The Genie can grant wishes such as money or even resurrect dead Sims. The Genie has violet skin and wears a waistcoat. After the 3 wishes are made, he disappears. (Even if all three are failures.)

To be awarded the Genie, several Sims in the household must have enthusiasm in a hobby and high Lifetime Aspiration, which will summon the Gypsy Matchmaker to deliver the lamp. The chance of getting the lamp is rare, however. There is a 2% chance (per day) the matchmaker will bring the lamp for each Sim with a 7 or higher in their Lifetime Aspiration (so if two Sims had that score, the chance would be 4%). However, in Desiderata Valley's Aspir household, there is already a Genie Lamp in the house.

[edit] Wishes

After summoning the Genie, there are six options to choose from:

  1. Give Me Wealth
    • Success: Money is distributed over time to the Sim who gave the wish in bags that fall from the sky, totaling §23,000.
      • Immediately: §10,000
      • The next day: §7,000
      • Two days after: §5,000
      • Three Days after: §1,000
    • Failure: You have a better chance of getting a burglar over the next few Sim days.
  2. Give Me Beauty
    • Success: It acts as a love potion--your Sim is more attractive to others.
    • Failure: NPC's rings your doorbell at all times.
  3. Resurrect
    • Success: Resurrects a selected dead Sim.
    • Failure: Resurrects a selected dead Sim, but as a zombie.
  4. Give Me A Long Life
    • Success: Extends the Sim's life by 4 days.
    • Failure: Shortens the Sim's life by 3 hours.
  5. Give Me Power To Cheat Death
    • Success: This allows the Sim who has wished for Cheating Death to allow themselves to plead for their own life, and at first, this
    will be successful.
    • Failure: However, after each successful plead with
    the Reaper, the success rate is decreased 10%. Note by pleading death while dying of old age, you will only prolong the Sim's life for another day.
  6. Give Me Peace of Mind
    • Failure: Appliances, plumbing, and electronics will break all the time.
  7. Give me Youth (Hidden from play)
    • Success: Adult or elder transitions in reverse to the previous age state. Adults will become teenagers and will have to reattend public school and elders will become adults, nullifying retirement or their 3-stage elder job.
    • Failure: If the wisher is an adult, they will become an elder. If they are an elder, it will be their time to die.
    • Can only be activated with the assistance of a third-party mod.
