Mean is one of the three social types that first appeared in The Sims along with Friendly and Romantic. In most games such as The Sims 3 and The Sims Medieval, Mean socials always takes away relationship but in The Urbz: Sims in the City, some Act Mean socials such as Throw Signs and Firecracker Dance increase relationship. As of The Sims 3 and The Sims Medieval, it is one of the six social types, the others are Friendly, Romantic, Funny, Fight and Special.

AdvantagesEdit

Mean socials usually have no advantages as they mostly decrease relationship but there are some exceptions. In The Urbz: Sims in the City, Act Mean socials such as Throw Signs add 10 relationships points when it does not fail.

DisadvantagesEdit

Mean socials always take away relationship points and some Sims will most likely use Mean socials. In The Sims 2 and The Sims Stories, Sims would use Mean or Fight socials if they had a negative relationship level and free will was on. In The Sims 3 games, traits such as Mean Spirited and Dislikes Children can cause Sims to use Mean or Fight socials on any Sim, including the player. In The Sims 3 and The Sims 3 for Console, Mean socials can cause the Sims to be kicked out for inappropriate behavior even if the socials were used on a Mean Spirited Sim.

EffectsEdit

The Sims, Bustin' Out and The UrbzEdit

The Mean Social type was introduced in The Sims although Mean socials were not categorized in the first three games while The Urbz did. Most mean socials in The Sims and The Sims Bustin' Out did not have any side effects other than lowering relationship or Rep[TU:SITC]. However, some socials in The Urbz: Sims in the City increase relationship such as Firecracker Dance.

Attack[TS][TSC][TS:BO]/Fight[TU:SITC] and Slap were Mean socials in these games but were changed to Fight socials starting with the Windows version of The Sims 2.

The Sims 2 and The Sims StoriesEdit

In The Sims and Bustin' Out, mean socials still decrease relationship but there are some changes. When Sims have negative relationships, they may occasionally use Mean or Fight Socials (such as Angela Pleasant insulting Lilith Pleasant, or Tybalt Capp slapping Romeo Monty). With Nightlife, Deluxe, Double Deluxe and The Sims Stories, they can also trigger Fury.

The Sims 3 and The Sims MedievalEdit

Mean changes the social status to Impolite, Rude and Unforgivably Rude when used; however for Hot-Headed[TS3][TS3C] Sims, the status will be Very Angry instead. A Hot-Headed Sim using a Mean social does not change the status to Very Angry unless if the Sim has the trait.[clarification needed]

In The Sims 3 and The Sims 3 (console), Mean socials can cause a household to be kicked out while visiting unless if the Sim is outside or if he or she has the inappropriate but in a Good Way reward[TS3]. If used for the first time, a message saying that the Sim is behaving inappropriately will appear. In The Sims Medieval and The Sims Social, the Sim will not be kicked out.

Mean Spirited Sims may occasionally use Mean socials. In Late Night, a celebrity may be Publically Disgraced due to interact in a mean way. Some traits, such as the Workaholic trait, have a Mean social Accuse of being.. that can be used.
