Services are NPCs that your Sim can call to perform specific tasks.

Caterer	Caterer can be called up when you are about to have a party. He will replenish your buffet table and fruit bowl whenever they empty. However, he sometimes forgets about his work during the party, often strolling around and socialising with the guests. He also rummages through the costume trunk.	§		The Sims: House Party
Exterminator	The exterminator takes care of cockroaches, which appear when there is enough filth on a Sim's lot.	§		The Sims 2
Gardener	If your plants need tending to, phone up a gardener and he will water and care for them for §10 an hour every three days.	§10/hour	09:00 - 17:00 or when no plants require care.	The Sims, The Sims 2
Maid	The Maid costs §10 an hour and does most of the housework, cleaning up any mess and making sure everything is washed and clean. In The Sims, she will spray cockroaches. If you feel she isn't doing her job well, or if you've caught her slipping a few of your Sim's possessions into her pockets, you can fire her.	§10/hour	10:00 - 17:00 or when all work is done. Repairman	The repairman will come over to fix broken appliances, mend leaks, repair faulty wiring or change light bulbs. This is well worth it if you lack the Mechanical skill to repair things yourself, however. Attempting repair without the proper skill can result in death.	§50/hour	In The Sims, he will come at any time. In The Sims 2, he will come between 09:00 and 17:00. Animal Control	If your lot becomes infested with a skunk or raccoon, you can phone Animal Control for them to remove the annoying critters for a mere §20.	§20		The Sims: Unleashed
Nanny	She will look after your Sim's baby, toddler or child's needs.		When she is called, or when she tracks a Sim's schedule and there are children on the lot.	The Sims 2
