Trait simbot

SimBots are a life state introduced to The Sims 3 in The Sims 3: Ambitions and The Sims 3: Pets for console. They harken back to Servos, however they differ in many important aspects. In the game code, they are identified as "FrankenSims" and "Frankensteins".

These playable creatures have two eyes instead of the single camera-like eye of Servos, and they have a more robotic, less streamlined appearance. This is consistent with the belief that The Sims 3 is set 50 years before The Sims 2 and 25 years before The Sims, and has led to speculation that SimBots are prototypes for Servos. Servos from The Sims 2 appear as golden statues in the science labs, so it appears that they are a long-term goal. SimBots can be male or female.

SimBots have most of the same needs as human Sims, except for hygiene. However, their needs are named differently and have a gray color.

Unlike the Servos of The Sims 2, SimBots possess no ability to shut down to conserve power, or use solar power to recharge, and may sleep in a bed as any other Sim does. Sleeping SimBots emit ones and zeros instead of Z symbols as a reference to binary code. Other Sims, and even other SimBots,[2] will react to SimBots with revulsion if the SimBot is close enough to the said Sim, in the same way as they might react to ghosts and mummies, although those with traits such as Party Animal, Brave, or Supernatural Fan will cheer instead. This will make them interrupt what they were doing and cancel the whole action queue, and they won't be able to get back to what they were doing by themselves: this is not limited to the first meeting with the SimBot: any time a SimBot leaves the Sim and return to the range of the Sim, this reaction is triggered.

Male and female SimBots differ in the structures of their heads and torsos. Additionally, the piece which connects the torso and pelvis is longer and narrower on female SimBots.

They can WooHoo, but cannot have children from interaction with Sims or other SimBots.[3] They can "reproduce" by inventing new SimBots, but this requires them to go through the extended process of getting this ability. Like all summoned Mummies, SimBots are classed as elders by the game; it is not possible to create a child-aged SimBot, as it is not possible to use Bottled SimBot Converter[TS3:SN] on child Sims. SimBots come online with automatic ranks in both the Handiness and Inventing skills.

Instead of calling a repairman, having a Sim repair the SimBot, or waiting 4 in-game hours, the player can use the testingcheatsenabled cheat to remove the "Short Out" moodlet. This can be done by pressing ^ Ctrl+⇧ Shift+C, then entering that code, then pressing the moodlet and using ^ Ctrl+click to get rid of it. A Sim who has a Moodlet Manager can use it on the SimBot to achieve the same outcome.

SimBots can short out from various water activities (See "SimBots and water" further below); or from the "Exhausted" moodlet, as opposed to fainting. During this time, other Sims can repair the SimBot, or can choose to reprogram them, which allows a reselection of their traits, including the ability to remove all of their traits. There seems to be no lasting damage from shorting out a SimBot, so it can be useful for redesigning the personality of a newly created SimBot, as the only other opportunity to select traits without using cheats is the Mid-life Crisis reward. It has been reported that reprogramming a SimBot will reset its relationships.[2]

SimBots will generally have the Brave trait, though it appears that some do not. However, it is noted that almost all (if not all) invented SimBots will have said trait.

SimBots cannot be singed or set on fire, allowing them to safely detonate objects without any negative effects even if they are directly caught in the explosion. SimBots are not only immune to the negative effects of electrocution, but will actually get the Energized moodlet and have their Charge need completely restored.[n 1] This is most reliably reproduced by having a SimBot attempt to repair or upgrade an electrical object on top of a puddle, such as one created by turning a gardening sprinkler on indoors; but it can also occur during failed repairs or upgrades, from getting caught in an electrical trap, or other ways in which a Sim may be electrocuted.

On top of that, they cannot die from starvation either, making them immune to 3 of the more common causes of death.

Making a SimBot sleep in the Cursed Sarcophagus of the Kings for an extended period of time will replace one of the SimBot's traits with the Evil trait. They do not gain the Good trait from sleeping in the Blessed Sarcophagus of the Kings. It is currently impossible to create a SimBot-Mummy hybrid, although SimBot ghosts are possible. SimBots can die of old age, and can also drown or be killed by a meteor.

Since they do not have malleable skin and (technically) do not wear clothes, SimBots are unable to receive tattoos or makeovers. They do not receive the "Completely at Ease" moodlet when opting for spa packages, though they do retain an "Energized" moodlet of the same magnitude, but not the duration.

SimBots can donate some of their plasma to the Busche School of Science,[TS3:UL] which indicates they have some kind of plasma in their bodies.

Unique abilities[]

While SimBots can eat food, they prefer scrap, and a single piece will completely restore their hunger and provide the Great Meal moodlet. SimBots also receive a variety of unique interactions, such as Show Off Features, Discuss Oil Brands, Insult Puny Human Brain, etc. They can spin their arms like helicopter blades to smash objects for scrap metal, although they can be fined for doing such on public property (even if there are no NPCs anywhere near the lot), except in junkyards.

They will not go to jail for it, but can rack up fines infinetely. They will not get fined when doing this on other residential lots than their own, but will be told to leave a house they've been invited into after the 2nd offense.

SimBots have jets in their feet allowing them to hover from place to place. They use this mode of travel as a substitute for running and skating,[TS3:S] and also use it when going between nearby lots.

SimBots can talk to microwave ovens, coffeemakers, and food processors, which will increase their Human Interaction motive.

SimBots and water[]

All SimBots are created with the Hydrophobic trait. If a SimBot gets wet, for example by forcing them to shower[n 2] or bathe, they will shut down and get a "Short Out" moodlet which lasts for four hours.

Even though SimBots are hydrophobic, they have no problem mopping up puddles of water or being sprayed by a sprinkler. However, they will short circuit if commanded to play with the sprinkler. Exploring dive wells or being caught in a steam trap will also cause them to short circuit, albeit not every time. Even though they do not like swimming it is still possible to drown a SimBot. They can use a sink to brush teeth and wash their hands without shorting out. They can also use the Not So Routine Machine, since the machine will skip the entire feeding and showering process for SimBots.

Not having a Hygiene need, they don't need to shower, and will short out if they do.

They don't appear to inherently short out from entering a swimming pool (They will attempt to Short Out, but they abandon the action as they can't short out while in a pool), but their Charge motive will plummet upon entering the pool, sufficiently so to give the Tired moodlet that expires after 2 hours. If the TestingCheatsEnabled cheat is used to drag the Charge motive back to full again, SimBots can snorkel in a pool without further complications.

Recoloring SimBots[]

SimBots initialize in a small variety of colors, often with rusty textures.

On the 28th of April 2009, TheSims3.com ran a promotion for The Sims 3: Ambitions, using a YouTube video featuring a SimBot recolored in the Iron Man suit colors. This suggested that SimBots might be recolorable in either Create a Style or Create a Sim. One hands on preview states that SimBots cannot be recolored. This is confirmed as partly true, as using mods, it is possible to bring a SimBot into dresser mode and recolor them.

Incidentally, it is also possible to give a normal Sim a recolorable SimBot body in Create-A-Sim mode through usage of the unlockoutfits cheat. However, doing this has no effect on the Sim's abilities or behavior.

Exclusive things SimBots can do[]

  • Talk to microwaves and coffeemakers.
  • Eat scrap.
  • Spin their arms in a helicopter motion to smash chairs, tables, TVs, and computers, in an attempt to collect scrap.
  • "Rummage for Scrap" at garbage cans, where the SimBot will obtain more scrap than other species' variations of rummage interactions, though they will still receive the usual discarded leftover items and trash piles too.

Things SimBots cannot do[]

Though not as hampered as their future successors, the Plumbots, there remains some limits on what SimBots can do under normal circumstances:

  • Enter a hot tub without shorting out.
  • Use a shower (excluding the Sonic Shower[TS3:ITF]), bathtub (including sauna mud baths), or all-in-one bathroom[TS3:IP][TS3:MS][TS3:ITF] without shorting out.
  • Play with a sprinkler without shorting out.
  • Perform a Sponge Bath at a sink without shorting out.
  • Use dressers or otherwise use clothing.
  • "Change appearance" with a mirror.
  • Get tattoos.
  • Faint on the ground from their Energy need being empty (They will instead short out).
  • Get singed.
  • Catch fire.
  • Get electrocuted (Their Battery Power motive will instead be filled up to 100%).[n 1]
  • Attend school, as child or teen SimBots don't exist (They can attend university[TS3:UL]).
  • Give birth or make someone pregnant.
  • Jump into a dive well without shorting out.[TS3:WA]
  • Enter a steam trap without shorting out.[TS3:WA]
  • Ride a horse.[TS3:P]
  • Get spray tans.[TS3:S]
  • Visit a face painting booth.[TS3:S]
  • Enter an apple bobbing tank contest without shorting out.[TS3:S]
  • Stay outdoors without an umbrella in rainy weather long enough to get soaked (Takes around 2 or 3 hours).[TS3:S]
  • Streak.[TS3:UL]
  • Divide by zero.[TS3:UL]
  • Scuba dive.[TS3:IP]
  • Even if they have the Bot fan trait, they cannot enter Bot Mode.[TS3:ITF]
  • Die from starvation; they will instead short out and improve their Scrap Reserves motive.

  • SimBots cannot be made in Bridgeport except by using a game mod due to a technical problem in the world data that prevents them from being created using the Scraptronic™ Workbench. But it may be possible to convert a sim into one by using the Bottled Simbot Converter from Supernatural.
  • A male SimBot slightly resembles the title character from The Iron Giant.
  • When a SimBot dies, it gets its own tombstone, which has a picture of a SimBot's hand holding up an hourglass.

    • Sims converted into SimBots using an elixir will automatically have their Handiness and Inventing skills improved to level 8 and 4, respectively. They retain these skill levels even when a different life state elixir is used.
    • SimBots created using Bottled SimBot Converter have the Immune to Fire hidden trait. This trait is retained if a different life state elixir is used afterwards.
  • If The Sims 3: Into the Future is installed, SimBots are still able to travel to the future just like human Sims, and can develop relations with Plumbots.
    • Such relations aren't entirely straight-forward: Although neither species are organic, a SimBot will take offense to a Plumbot talking to them about "Complain about Puny Humans".
  • Plumbots can be viewed as the future, and thus more advanced, version of SimBots.
  • In The Sims Medieval, the Golems seen in the Ticktop annexation quest bear some resemblance to SimBots.
  • There is a way to make Sim looking Simbots other than the hybrid trick have your sim drink the bottled simbot converter then enter TestingCheatsEnabled True and then trigger the simbots age next press edit in cas there you can set the simbot to any age or gender you want and change their appearance like body shape, skin tone, clothing, etc note that the simbot can’t change clothes unless the cure elixir is used by the simbot to turn back into regular sim and you may still hear simbot sounds though as a side effect
