Spheris Raws[]

The following probably needs to be reformatted/templatized. I just dump in whatever raw data I got from the game through playing. If this is useful for somebody, I'll try to update it with new stuff I discover.

Other than the generic crafting info, I also put in some quest related item crafting. Also, the stats for the 4 variants of the quest reward sword crafted in quest "Cutting Edge" as well as what option to get each one is included. (Differs only in looks afaik). I just dump it all together until somebody starts organize the quest-related pages.

Comments for Blacksmith: One of the more "rewarding" profession imo: You get something new every level (unlike some other professions which only makes a diff after level 5). These are a few tips I learned:

  • Always craft the best hammer you have at the best possible quality first.
  • Forging job cannot be queued. They make it such that it is "easier" for you to switch between Heat metal and Hammer metal. It's just EA's stupid design. They could make it better.
  • Be aware that your Forge can run "out of coal" in a long forging job. If you need to do a long forging job, make sure you have enough food and energy, and after every 2nd heating metal part, you can manually initiate a stock with coal command at the point where the metal piece is at highest point in the "orange" heat zone. After you restock the coal and continue making the item, the heat will drop but should probably be still in orange zone.
  • You can do hands-off crafting (no need to switch between heating metal at Forge and hammering metal at Anvil) if the number of mistakes tolerable is higher than the number of switches you need to make between Forge and Anvil. E.g. Say your Blacksmith is skillful enough such that crafting a Crude Longsword at legendary quality requires less than 4 "mistakes". With a good hammer, you only need one round of heating + hammering -> 1 mistake if you don't do anything allowing the metal to overheat, before your sim automatically switches to Anvil. iow, after initiating the forge command, you can just speed up the time and watch the item complete at legendary level without requiring the Forge "mini-game". This is applicable to all items which can tolerate number of mistakes more than the number of times you need to switch between Forge and Anvil. (Beware of "out of coal" mistakes)
  • Don't bother with the shop for cash making. Use the shop only for distributing quality items to the other hero sims (they can buy it at the shop when it is open), as an alternative to the drag-and-drop on the target sim for free. Manual selling is just too slow and takes up too much time (which can be used for harvesting more ores and making more items). I prefer bulk producing items for which there is a surplus of raw materials and bulk sell them at the Village Shoppe. If you have a child (should get one!!!), you can drag the stuff to sell into his/her inventory and send him/her to do the selling instead while you do more important stuff.
  • Higher tier items need support from ALL heroes. Everybody should get to know the blacksmith and enable a tracking marker (from the relationship view, click on the portrait while awake and turn marker on), so that items can be directly dropped onto him. E.g. Mystical Metal Fragments which is used for all the top-tier items can be found occasionally in quests (esp on patrols/adventures by combat sims). The only other way is by trading after the territory is open (which takes a LONG time and a LOT of collecting/trading). e.g. unicorn horn which is used for the Doomplate (best armor) can be traded for if the territories are available after a long chain of trading. FYI, 1 unicorn horn <- 3 dark stones <- 6 tablet of the Watcher <- 18 jeweled rings <- 54 goose feathers <-324 wildflowers. Other than requiring the merchant, it will probably require the other heroes (esp Wizard, Physician and Spy) to help gather the wildflowers.
  • The Top-Tier collectible ores are probably Mana Stone, Mithral and Adamantle (prob in that order too).
  • Mystical Metal Fragment must be found in ranom events or traded with one of the hidden island territory
  • Doomsword hilt and blade can be found by surving jumps into the Pit of Judgement.
  • Some crafting books are sold in Village Shoppe (could be partially randomized? In one Kingdom, I saw book for Jacob's Tooth, but not in another Kingdom). The only other source I found is from random encounters with a Dwarf who offers to sell you the books. If you paid, I think you will get two random books. If you didn't, you could still get one (don't know random or not)
  • Don't take on the Blacksmith Apprentice quest unless you have resources to put up a second set of Forge and Anvil. The bastard does nothing for you except interfere with your forging jobs by trying to use the Forge and Anvil.
