The Eclectic and Enigmatic Energizer is an aspiration reward that was added in The Sims 2. According to its description, the technology behind it is "a puzzle wrapped in an enigma, held together with copious amounts of duct tape and bits of twine", and it certainly looks like a ramshackle contraption that's held together with duct tape and twine. Regardless of what it looks like, it works - though it can only be used five times, as mentioned in the device's description and indicated by the five red lights on its bench.

The Sim using the Energizer pulls a lever on the right-hand side of the device, then steps into an old washtub on the left-hand side and grabs two of the poles that surround the washtub. The mechanism will engage a few seconds after that. The action can be canceled before the Sim steps into the Energizer; it does not lose one of its five uses until the mechanism begins to operate. If the use is successful, the Sim will be surrounded by a bright glow as their motives are boosted. However, failure will drain their motives, though it will not kill them. If many of the Sim's motives are very low, the Energizer will not be able to completely replenish all of them, though all motives will get a substantial boost.

Using the Energizer takes 30 Sim minutes. If the Sim was in gold aspiration when stepping into the Energizer, it doesn't matter if they drop into green while it's running. However, if their aspiration level drops from gold to green between the time the lever is pulled and the time they step into the Energizer, it may fail. If the Sim's Energy is depleted severely enough, they may pull the lever, step in, then step out before the Energizer can start to work. This will not use up one of the machine's five uses.

If Seasons is installed, using the Energizer will raise the Sim's temperature. There is a bug introduced in Seasons which may cause Sims to become stuck in the Energizer. This was fixed in the Seasons patch.

Trivia[]

  • The Energizer is also well known from the Beaker household in Strangetown. In the storybook image, Nervous Subject is seen in the machine, and failing while Loki is standing outside it, looking very disappointed at the failure. When first entering the Beaker household, an Energizer can be seen on the first floor. It hasn't been used yet.
    • Because of this, some players speculate that Loki invented the Energizer. However, while this cannot be ruled out, it is only speculation, as the name of the Energizer's inventor is not mentioned or hinted at.
    • In The Sims 2 for PC, if a low aspiration level sim uses the machine, it will shock the using sims and drains all of his/her need, but this will not kill a sim. However, in The Sims 2 for PSP, as Emily Emory told the player that "Most high-tech machine in Strangetown will only work right if the user is in a good mood", it is possible that this energizer is the machine that killed Nervous Subject in the game, although the machine itself wasn't seen in the game.
  • The super-team program on KidzTube shows the failed operation of an Energizer.
