The Sims 2: University Life Collection includes The Sims 2: University, The Sims 2: Teen Style Stuff and The Sims 2: IKEA Home Stuff. A PC version was announced on TheSims2.com website on July 8, 2009, and released in North America on August 24, 2009. Although some promotional images suggested that it was available for Mac, this version has not been released yet.

Many players became frustrated that the collection came with Teen Style Stuff because the new college students could not use these new items. There were rumors and speculation that a new, bona fide version of University Life Collection would be released in late 2010, with a new stuff pack for Young Adults included, but that did not happen. There were other rumors that EA had promised some form of special gift for their apparent slip-up.

When installing this product, the player will be able to choose which parts to install. A player who already has one or two of the included Packs can—and should—simply choose not to install them. There is also an option to install The Sims 2: Store Edition, but players should note that, as of March 31, 2011, The Sims 2 Store is closed.

On July 15, 2014, an email was sent out to people who had registered a copy of The Sims 2 on Origin, which announced the creation of The Sims 2: Ultimate Collection, intended to replace previous installations of The Sims 2 for Origin users. The text of the e-mail is:

Dear Origin gamer,

Your current version of The Sims 2 will lose technical support on July 22, 2014. We want you to have the most up-to-date version of The Sims 2 in your collection, so you will see a brand new addition to your Origin library: The Sims 2 Ultimate Collection.

This is the most up-to-date version of The Sims 2 and the version that is still supported by Origin. It also features a lot more content than you may already have in your current version of The Sims 2.

The Sims 2: Ultimate Collection will appear in your Origin library automatically. You'll need to download and install it to your computer to play it.

You're free to continue playing your existing version of The Sims 2, but please note that it is an older edition of the game that will soon lose technical support. To continue receiving support on your progress of The Sims 2 — including Sims characters, houses, etc. — you will need to transfer your save files of The Sims 2 to the Ultimate Edition. To learn more about backing up your data, please visit http://help.ea.com/en/article/backing-up-your-sims-2-files/.

Once you've migrated your Sims' lives to The Sims 2 Ultimate Collection, you can better organize your Origin game library by hiding your previous version of The Sims 2. Click on the tile for The Sims 2 in your Game Library for the option to hide it. If you need additional directions, we've got you covered.

Thanks for your continuing passion for The Sims.

— Team Origin

The Ultimate Collection includes all expansions and stuff packs for The Sims 2, regardless of whether or not the player owned them before, along with all of the game patches. There is no information about when the collection will be released to non-Origin players.

A Tweet was sent out on July 16, 2014 releasing information from a chat with a producer. The chat conversation talked about The Sims 2: Ultimate Collection and whether it was going to be purchasable. It has been confirmed that The Sims 2: Ultimate Collection will be available for purchase by the public, although if The Sims 2 is in the Origin library it will come for free.

From July 23, 2014 to July 31, 2014, the game could be permanently added to anyone's Origin account for free, whether or not they have the base game, by redeeming the product code I-LOVE-THE-SIMS.[1]

The Sims 2: Ultimate Collection uses the icon for The Sims 2: Mansion & Garden Stuff, launches from "Sims2EP9.exe" (the same as Mansion & Garden Stuff), and the main menu uses the Mansion & Garden Stuff logo. However, the initial loading screen shows the logo for The Sims 2: Fun with Pets Collection. This is because Ultimate Collection is largely a compilation of compilations. It includes Double Deluxe and the University Life, Best of Business, and Fun with Pets collections, as well as the expansion and stuff packs that are not part of these collections.[2]

One difference in Ultimate Collection is that it does not have a "The Sims 2" folder. Its install folder is considered to be
\Origin Games\The Sims 2 Ultimate Collection\Fun with Pets\SP9\.

It was possible to get a copy of the Ultimate Collection by providing a physical or disc copy of The Sims 2 (or any other The Sims 2 compilation e.g. The Sims 2: Double Deluxe) on one's Origin account on Origin live chat. Once done, a copy would be added to the Origin library. As of October 11, 2018, EA ended code support for Ultimate Collection, meaning players can no longer redeem a copy of Ultimate Collection and also meaning that players can no longer purchase or redeem any copy of any The Sims 2 games even if the player has a code from a physical copy.[3]

The Sims 2: Super Collection is a compilation released by Aspyr for OS X on August 7, 2014. It includes University, Nightlife, Open for Business, Pets, Seasons and Bon Voyage as well as Happy Holiday Stuff, Family Fun Stuff and Glamour Life Stuff.

It differs from The Sims 2 Ultimate Collection as it's a new, unique product[4] with some changes being released for OS X exclusively on the Mac App Store while the Ultimate Collection is a copy of the original The Sims 2 with all EPs/SPs included with no changes, was released for Windows and could be obtained from Origin until July 31, 2014.

Description[]

The ground breaking classic returns to the Mac!

This updated version of The Sims™ 2 includes several enhancements exclusively for Mac:

  • Native resolution support, including 4K and Retina!
  • Drastically improved performance, thanks to an all new renderer.
  • Gesture Support for zoom and rotate.
  • Tons of bug fixes and tweaks.

In The Sims™ 2: Super Collection, take your Sim from cradle to grave through life's greatest moments. Create your own houses, neighborhoods, Sims, and even family dynasties—then watch it all come to life! You may choose to manage your Sims so they experience the rewards of a life well lived. Of course, you may also choose to neglect their needs, indulge in their fears, and see what happens… The possibilities are endless!

Changes[]

The Sims 2: Super Collection has some changes such as higher resolution support.

Custom content and saves created for newer expansion and stuff packs such after as FreeTime and before Mansion & Garden will not work with the Super Collection.

Trivia[]

  • The Sims 2: Super Collection is the only legal way to get The Sims 2 from August 2014 besides buying physical copies second hand since EA no longer sells the game. Before July 31, 2014, it was possible to get Ultimate Collection for free through Origin but now this is no longer possible. It was possible to get the Ultimate Collection as a free download if you contacted EA's chat support regarding the game, with proof that you have a copy of the base game, to which they then add the game to your Origin account. However, this is no longer possible and any copies of the game that weren't given out were deleted for unknown reasons. The most likely reason for this could be the age of the game, which had its last pack released fifteen years ago as of November 2023, which makes the game difficult to run on newer systems of Windows due to several glitches with Windows 8.1 and 10 and the game.
