The Sims 2 (PSP) is the first of The Sims series for the PlayStation Portable system. It takes place in Strangetown, but unlike the GBA and DS versions, the PSP version is based on the Windows version; the graphics are similar. This is the only PSP Sims game that is minigame as well as mission based. (The Sims 2: Pets is not mission based). The mission and minigame type of style is very similar to The Urbz and Bustin' Out.

It could be purchased from the PlayStation Network and downloaded on both Sony's PSP and PS Vita handheld video game consoles. However, this game has been removed from the store as of 2014 by EA as The Sims 2 is no longer supported. Luckily, people who purchased the game before the discontinuation on the original UMD or from the PSN can still play/download the game on the PSP or PS Vita (digital only). On the PS Vita, the game has enabled double texture filtering and scaling to the HD resolution.

The Sims 2 features 6 minigames (the other 2 are skill building and socializing). Players can only have 3 Sims per Memory Stick regardless of capacity, and 4 saves per Sim.

The Sims 2 on PSP includes Human Sims, Zombies, Ghosts, Aliens and Vampires.

Gameplay[]

The Sims 2 for PSP has combined control style from both the GBA and DS versions for example L and R rotates the camera and "Circle" is used for Perks (similar to the Tools from the GBA version). The game uses a social game that relys on quick action and identification. The sim that the player is socializing with will say something in a speech bubble, and the player will need to press a button that stands for either the exact icon in question or an icon that is closely related to the icon in question. It is similar to the social game in The Sims 2 (Nintendo DS), but it's more in depth.

Differences between The Sims 2 PSP, GBA and DS[]

  • ESRB Rating: The Sims 2 for PSP is rated Teen while The Sims 2 for GBA and DS is rated E10+.
  • Start and Select: Unlike the GBA version of The Sims 2, Start brings the menu whereas in the GBA version Start shows Goals, Pockets, Relationships, etc.
  • The PSP game has a completely different plot and mostly different cast of characters.
  • All three games contain a form of unlockable secret, but in the The Sims 2 (PSP), each sim has up to four secrets that can be sold for cash. These secrets are unique to The Sims 2 (PSP) and unlocking them are important parts of progression, while in the other games, they are more-so considered "rewards."

Create a Sim[]

Create-A-Sim in The Sims 2 for PlayStation Portable is controlled using the Playstation-Dpad-Neutral,Playstation-Button-X , and Playstation-Button-T buttons. The first phase of creating a Sim is gender, color, hair, hair color, and face. The second phase has eyes, nose, facial hair or make-up, lower and upper parts of the face. The third and fourth phase has clothes, glasses (optional, includes sunglasses), and a name.Playstation-Button-X will continue or start the game (in the fourth phase), while Playstation-Button-T will either cancel the phase (for improvements) or cancel everything (during the first phase). Players can also customize neighbors, but cannot change their names.
