The Sims 3: World Adventures is an expansion pack released on November 17th, 2009. [1] It is the first expansion pack for The Sims 3. This confirmed speculation that expansion packs would be released after The Sims 3 as its predecessors The Sims and The Sims 2 had numerous expansion packs. The first hint of this expansion pack showed up on a French gaming site JeuxVideoPC.com in March 2009, under the title Les Sims 3 Destination Aventure.[2]
The game was officially announced on August 3, 2009 at a press release for Electronic Arts. Information about the game appeared on both The Sims 2 and The Sims 3 websites after this. The game will be reminiscent of previous expansion packs The Sims: Vacation and The Sims 2: Bon Voyage as players can take their Sims away to vacation destinations. Like the previous two games mentioned, Sims will once again have the choice of partaking in three different forms of vacations but in a first for the series, the new vacation destinations will be based on real World locations. Sims will be able to vacation in new locations: Shang Simla, Champs Les Sims and Al Simhara. These new locations will be the same size as neighbourhoods Sunset Valley and Riverview, and will parody the countries of China, France and Egypt respectively.

- New life state: Mummy.
- Accept challenges, find treasures, discover what’s lurking in hidden caves and more.
- Explore famous landmarks in pastiche countries such as China, Egypt, and France, said to be the same size as Sunset Valley each.
- New game-play features such as Puzzles, Traps and Choices that may change the appearance of the countries for good, all for the sake of the Finder's Keeper's motto.
- New Plants and Fish.
- 12 New Gems, 8 New Metals, 6 New Butterflies, 3 New Bugs.
- New species of grapes;
- New animals: snakes, frogs, snails, and even crocodiles that you can collect and bring home as pets[3];
- Meet new Sims from exotic locations and share their cultures.
- Customize your Sims homes with new styles & artifacts from their adventures.
- Get $10 worth of free SimPoints for The Sims 3 Store (1000 SimPoints), and additional online features to be announced.
- New skills: Martial arts, Nectar making and Photography.
- New traits: Disciplined, Photographer's Eye and Adventurous. There are also cultural traits that you can only get (such as a Sim eating with chopsticks) by having a child with a native from a certain country.
- Stores aren't rabbit holes in the destinations
- A new basement tool will be added to the game which will make basements easier to build.
- New Death: Mummy's Curse.
- New Pagoda roof styles
- Various new items relating to the 3 destinations: China, France, and Egypt
- New lifetime wishes such as visionary or seasoned traveler.

Stores aren't rabbit holes in the destinations. There are like normal houses, with a cash desk, and objects to sell. In Sunset Valley and Riverview stores are still rabbit holes. There are also sellers.
