Release[]

The Sims 4 for consoles was released on November 17, 2017. Unlike previous console releases in the series, The Sims 4 for consoles is a conversion of the original PC version rather than a separate game developed specifically for consoles, thereby sharing much of the same gameplay and feature set as the original release; certain features such as community sharing are absent, however. In addition, many of the cheats for the PC release will also work on console, and can be invoked by holding all four shoulder buttons on the joypad.[8] The Gallery was added to both the PS4 and Xbox versions on January 16, 2020. PS Plus or Xbox Live Gold subscriptions are not required to access the Gallery; only an EA account is required. Console players are freely able to share content with PC and Mac players, and vice versa.[9]

Those who pre-ordered the Deluxe Party Edition of the game were able to play the game three days early, on November 14, 2017.[10][11][12]

Anybody who had an EA Play subscription on Xbox One were able to trial the game ahead of release, that began on November 9, 2017.[12][13] The base game was made free to all EA Play subscribers on July 12, 2018.[14][15] This also includes subscribers to Xbox Game Pass.[16]

Differences with the PC/Mac version[]

According to EA's help pages for the console versions,[17] memories, custom content, mods, and the Bunny Egg Hunt challenge event are absent from the console versions. Very few, if any, other differences are known to exist.

Console features[]

Although the Xbox version has received an Xbox One X-optimized version (incl. purported Auto HDR upscaling), there are no PS5- or Xbox Series-optimized versions as of August 2023.

Keyboard and mouse are supported on both the Xbox and PlayStation versions, a fairly rare feature on home consoles (Especially so on PlayStation 4 and 5).

The Microsoft Store listing does not have Windows 10/11 cross-listing support, despite this being an available option for publishers of games on Xbox One onwards.
