The Sims Wiki has a team of administrators (also known as sysops) that help manage various aspects of the wiki. Administrators are long-term trusted members of the community, but they are not "in charge" of it. Although administrators have access to some tools and privileges that non-administrators do not, they are still bound to follow wiki rules and community decisions, and are otherwise equal to all other users.
Bureaucrats are the same as regular administrators, except they have the ability to add and remove user rights for other users. Bureaucrats can only have their bureaucrat flag removed by themselves or Wikia Staff, and can remove the user flags of any other user (aside from bureaucrats or Wikia Staff). Bureaucrats technically do not need to have sysop flags, though in practice they almost always have sysop flags anyways. Aside from this ability, bureaucrats are equal to other administrators. This also means that, aside from those things reserved for administrators and/or bureaucrats, bureaucrats are equal to all other users on the wiki.
On The Sims Wiki, only administrators can apply to or be nominated to become a bureaucrat. Selection of new bureaucrats is handled via a community nomination and review process on the requests for bureaucratship page.
Wikia staff members have full access to all of Wikia. They will be shown in Special:Listusers/staff on any wiki. The Volunteer Spam Task Force (VSTF) have extended rights across Wikia so that they can deal with vandalism when they see it or when there are no local admins about. VSTF members will be shown on Special:Listusers/vstf across Wikia. Please see the Wikia Community Central contact page for details on how to contact Wikia staff.
Becoming an administrator
Experienced users who have already received rollback privileges, and who are trusted, long-term members of The Sims Wiki community may request administrator privileges at The Sims Wiki:Requests for administratorship page. Applications are discussed by the community, and a community consensus is necessary in order to achieve a promotion.
Users applying for administratorship should understand the various responsibilities they will be tasked with (see below). However, prospective administrators—as well as current administrators—should remember that being an administrator is not a job, it's a hobby. No administrator is expected to make a certain amount of contributions or to be online for a certain amount of time. Admins, like all other editors, have lives outside of the wiki, and sometimes that means that admin will be inactive or less active; these admins should not feel as though they are expected to remain always active.
What do administrators do?
What can administrators not do?
Administrators should not use their administrator powers to settle editing disputes; for example, to lock a page on a version he or she prefers in an editing dispute that isn't vandalism. Administrator powers should be used to help keep the wiki clear of vandalism, spam, and users who make malicious edits, but not for simple disagreements between users acting in good faith. Ideally an admin shouldn't be considered "in charge". The ideal admin is just someone who is trusted to have a few extra buttons and to use them for the benefit of the wiki community.
Definitions of current status
The table at the top of this page lists the current status of the various administrators on the wiki. Statuses are generally set as follows:
|Active||This administrator edits the wiki regularly and frequently. They may edit every day or every few days, but will typically be on the wiki editing several times in a week.|
|Semi-Active||This administrator may edit somewhat infrequently, but generally edits at least a few times a week. Their activity can be variable.|
|Absent||This administrator has declared themselves to be absent from editing. Absent administrators may still edit, but often will not edit for weeks at a time. Long-time absent administrators are eventually tagged as 'inactive.'|
|Inactive||This administrator has not made any constructive edits to The Sims Wiki in over three months. Inactive administrators will probably not respond to messages made on their talk page and likely will not edit unless they return to regular activity.|
