The vote on whether to keep achievements has ended. The final vote was 2 in favor of keeping them, and 6 opposed. Therefore, I contacted Wikia and asked them to disable achievements once the current promotion has ended. This is their response:
Yes, we will disable achievements on November 22nd on your wiki.
As an FYI, if your community ever does decide it likes Achievements and would like to use them again, the achievement points will not reset so all the badges one has earned are not lost (but with the feature off, not seen).

I used Special:Contact to send a message to Wikia staff about this. and here is the response I got:
Here is what has happened: Our Ad department has sold a premium achievement, which is where we allow companies to sponsor an achievement (cutting down on the need to sell ads elsewhere on the site). Of course, in order to give that achievement to your visitors, achievements as a whole needed to be enabled.
