Project of the Month - September 2013
Animated sims plumbbob

Welcome to another Project of the Month! Before we get into September's project, let's briefly recap the August PotM.

August Project Recap[]

Last month we set out to clean up our list of stub pages on the wiki. We set a goal of a 50% reduction in the number of stubs on the wiki. We didn't meet that goal, unfortunately. However, we managed to make a decent reduction in stub articles, bringing our total stubs from 534 at the beginning of August, to 455 by the end of the month. This gives us about a 15% reduction in the number of stub articles on the wiki. Although this is below our goal, any reduction in stubs is progress.

To those users who helped out with this project, please help yourself to a special userbox for your user page - {{User PotM August 2013}}. Thank you to everyone who helped out in August!

September Project of the Month[]

The project for September is a little more abstract than the previous two projects. As such, there isn't a very clearly defined goal to achieve. This month, we'll be focusing on making additions to our Game Guides articles.

The wiki has had game guides (previously listed under the Tutorial: namespace) for a couple years, but the number of articles there is somewhat small. Game guide articles allow us to give step-by-step information and game help, in a manner that would be more difficult to accomplish in a normal wiki article. There are several areas that could use improvement, however.

  • Pictures. Many of our game guides are lacking in pictures or visual items. Walls of text may be useful, but often a picture can explain a situation better than words alone. Images also help to break up large chunks of text and make the whole page more manageable and easier to comprehend.
  • Technical help and guides. One area where our game guides section is clearly lacking is in technical guides or help. There are several areas where technical guidance would be useful, such as game debugging or custom content installation. Much of this information has not been added to the wiki, and we are unable to help some readers.
  • Expand on current guides. We have several guides that could use some additional information or expansion.

As always, any help you can give would be greatly appreciated. Please leave a comment below if you have any ideas for future monthly projects, or want to know more about getting involved.
