Over the years, Simlish speech and voice has been provided by a wide range of different actors, each giving their own style and charm to the Sims they voice.

The Sims

In The Sims, male Adult Sims are voiced by Stephen Kearin, while female adult voices are performed by Gerri Lawlor.[1] These two actors are the inventors of the Simlish language.[2][3] Sean O' Connor, Laurel McCarl Kapros, Paul Rausmussen and Eli Sibley perform additional voices. In The Sims: Makin' Magic, Nikki Rapp makes her debut as the voice of Child Sims.[4]

The Sims 2

In The Sims 2 there is a wider range of voice actors, to accommodate the increased number of life stages.

  • Child Sims are, independently of their gender, voiced by Nikki Rapp.
  • Teen males are voiced by Jack Conte, and teen females are voiced by Thessaly Lerner. If The Sims 2: University is installed, they are also the voices of Young Adults.
  • Adults of each gender now have two separate voices, chosen automatically by the game upon the Sim's birth or creation in Create a Sim. The player cannot control which voice the Sim is given, though it is possible to change a Sim's voice using SimPE[n 1] It is also possible for experienced players to identify the voice of their Sim in Create a Sim before they have confirmed their creation.[5] Gerri Lawlor and Stephen Kearin return, voicing female and male sims, respectively.[6] Stephen Kearin is also the voice of certain NPCs, such as ideal plantsim, Rod Humble, Unsavory Charlatan, and Bigfoot (NPC).[n 2] They are joined by Zoe Galvez, and Dave Boat, who voices certain NPCs such as the Genie and Bigfoot.
  • Elder voices are performed by Roger Jackson and Liz Mamorsky. Roger Jackson is also the voice of certain NPCs, such as the Therapist and witch doctor.
  • The Baby and Toddler Sims are performed by Donna LeTourneau.  Donna LeTourneau also performs many NPC voices in the expansion packs, including Mrs. Crumplebottom.
  • In the Open for Business expansion pack, the mechanical-sounding voice of Servos is a heavily-modified version of Stephen Kearin's voice.
  • It appears that the voice on the other end of a telephone call in The Sims 2 is always the same, regardless of that Sim's age, gender, or life state. The said voice is a modified version of Stephen Kearin's voice.[citation needed]
  • In The Sims 2, all adult male ghosts are voiced by Stephen Kearin, while all adult female ghosts are voiced by Gerri Lawlor, regardless of the voice they have when they are alive.

Notes

  1. The voice type appears as a hexadecimal code in the Sim Browser's "Other" tab. This can be edited, but players should be cautious about doing so. It is safer to copy the code from another Sim that has the voice you want, and replace the old code with the code from the other Sim.
  2. All in-game Bigfoots are voiced by Dave Boat, with the exception of the NPC Bigfoot who is voiced by Stephen Kearin. If the player summons a Bigfoot using cheats, he will also be voiced by Stephen Kearin - all summoned Bigfoots are just normal Sims with Bigfoot accessories. However it is possible to change the voice of a "real" Bigfoot with SimPE.

The Sims 3

In The Sims 3, for the first time players are able to choose their Sim's voice, and even alter the pitch. This voice stays consistent throughout the child, teen, young adult, adult, and elder life stages (toddlers that are born in-game cannot have their voices changed).

The player can choose between three different voices in Create a Sim for most life stages, but only two for children. Only two past voice actors return; Nikki Rapp and Donna LeTourneau. New voice actors include Khary Payton, Elisa Gabrielli, William Salyers, Georgina Cordova, Nicky Ralf, Will Blagrove, Becky Boxer, William Woff and Deborah Ben-Eliezer.

The Sims 4

In The Sims 4, there are nine voice actors who voice Sims with Simlish.[7] Some of the voice actors in The Sims 4 include Cia Court, Scott Whyte,[8] Krizia Bajos,[9] and Jessica DiCicco.[10] Other voice actors include Hynden Walch, Taylor Parks, Arianna Ratner, Patrick Seitz, and Fred Tatasciore. Nikki Rapp, who has been a voice actor since The Sims: Makin' Magic, did not return in The Sims 4 at first,[11] but later returned in February 2016.
